Everyones different obviously, but I think the ramp up from small and manageable to large and epic throughout the campaign works well. It allows you to develop your skills without being initially overwhelmed
I thought the devs wanted us to specialize into battle groups to take different objectives, but if all units can reach each other in a turn then it's not different than going around with one big army.
Also thanks to the developer for responding to comments!
On the other hand, your forces are pretty small too, and expect places like Stalingrad there aren't that many enemy units either.
