SPAZ-like Multiplayer games
Hey, I'm wondering if there are any games out there with the same kind of gameplay, but with multiplayer. Both Co-Op and PvP are welcome.

Thanks

SPAZ seems to be one-of-a-kind.

well this game would of been alright in co-op at about 2-4 players (how many you have says what level your ship is)

Once, long ago, there was a multiplayer client/sever game called SubSpace. It featured a top-down playing area, used spaceships, and was very twitch-oriented. It was good, so the fans made a better client and called it Continuum. I strongly suspect that it helped inspire SPAZ, since a fight involving a bunch of Tiny ships in SPAZ is roughly what all fights in SubSpace are like.

In another game, Star Control II, nowadays known by the freeware remake's title, "The Ur-Quan Masters," had a one-on-one mode that felt a bit like fighting with Medium/Large ships in SPAZ. The ships are varied and quirky, but tend to be quite fragile. It's not really played for the PvP, but instead is more focused on the single-player adventure mode. I lost so much time to this game it's not funny.

Still, a multiplayer SPAZ would be a heck of a lot of fun. It probably won't come to pass since SPAZ wasn't designed with multiplayer in mind. SPAZ 2, on the other hand...

yeah up to 4 players that the other players have their own seperate ships (how many they have depends on the level of the mothership)

For purely PVP you could check out the game Gimbal. It's a really well made game, currently on Greenlight but you can puchase it off their site and Desura.

from the spaz homesight in the faq "A multiplayer component does not fit with the current design, and we would not want to wedge multiplayer in to the detriment of the single player experience. We will likely be looking into a future Multiplayer adaptation of SPAZ though, focused on our ship design and combat."

Sins of a Solar Empire is the most recent game I can recall as a co-op game with space combat. Not exactly SPAZ but some similarities

There was a really good co-op space game a while back called Haegemonia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haegemonia:_Legions_of_Iron

Wayward Terran Frontier possibly. Combat wise, but it also has ship building and crew management like FTL.

AFAIK he plans to make it multiplayer.
