What's safe to sell?
I'm guessing items with a little coin icon in the top right corner are meant to be sold, but do they ever have any other purposes? Like being used in quests, for example.

Anything I should hold on to? Does it matter where I sell them, or will every NPC give me the same price?

What about rare or uncommon resources, does that change anything other than the value?

What about items without the coin icon?

It seems that a star denotes quest items, and things with no icons have other uses.

For example, I found some Gunpowder, which doesn't have an icon. The text says that Gunslingers have a use for it; does that mean that, as a Wizard, it's only useful to me as something to sell?

I'm probably overthinking all of this, but too many games don't make clear what's "safe" to sell, so I prefer to ask and not take chances.

Thanks.

I don't think it matters where you sell items and I think you get the same price everywhere.

Gunpowder is used with the Improve Ammunition ability, which the Gunslinger starts with. Not sure if the Wizard or Witch Doctor can ever find a scroll for this ability, I did not find the Improve Ammunition when I did a run through with these two classes.

Ability scrolls should only be sold if you already have the ability AND the ability scroll is a lower level than the level of your ability. If the ability scroll is at a higher level than the level of your ability, you can take the scroll to a Town's Wizard, get the Wizard to identify the scroll and this will then increase the level of your ability to whatever level is shown on the scroll.

Don't sell the following items:
  • Any type of Orb of Upgrade
  • Weapon Chest Keys and Weapon Chest Key Fragments
  • Bible Pamphlets - These can be collected and given to an NPC in batches of 10 for rewards
  • Scorpion Eyes - These can be collected and given to an NPC in batches of 5 for rewards

Thanks a lot for the detailed answer!

Basically, it sounds like I can actually trust the description for each item, which is great to hear, and sadly a rare thing.
