Pros of chimera breeding?

I am a bit confused what it is supposed to be good for - since cross breeding to get new species seems not possible.

Even if it can improve the stats of the next generation, it seems to require more work and stashing space than worth the effort.

From what i see, different chimera has different base stat, so if you want to go min maxing without going through a lot of hassle, it's how to do it.

Err, you don't have to keep them all. You can sell them for a pittance of 1 pearl and 150ish copper, OR you can act like a real farmer and treat them like livestock. Mash them into chimera crystals using a compressor or the giant hammering the anvil in the sunlands.

the Pros to chimera breeding is to get a chimera that has good stat improvement (because you get a portion of there base stats) that gains attack power as it levels up with a trait and an attack that you like. The cons being that it takes a bit of time depending on the chimera you want to breed to find the item they require to breed and finding a 'pair'

One of the benefits I'm getting from it right now is to use certain low value excess items to slowly generate more pearls (i.e. feeding twigs to the little tree stump looking chimera). This way I'm generating a steady number of additional chimera without needing to capture them.

you've noticed the value next to the element of chimera, right? It's also displayed in the pen interface on their crystal. These values determine the stat growth of the chimera, and when breeding, the child chimera will have equal or better value than their parents. Using this, you can gradually increase the value of your chimera so they perform better in combat.

It's also useful for pearl generation, product farming and crystal making, as mentioned before. Not to mention keeping large numbers of chimera is a good source of witchery exp.

Also keep in mind that you can insert elemental runes to further optimize production on your penned chimeras.
