How do we use the magical watering can?

I feel like I’ve tried all of the action buttons but still can’t water my crops. Halp!

it's not explained but just drag it into your hands on the equip screen

What do you mean by drag it into your hands?
Is it something odd like the shovel function in the keys?
or is it the "task bar" so to speak that allows you to use the "space bar" to activate whatever is in your hands

where you go to equip a wizard hat/chimera or w/e its in that screen hand icon, just drag the watercan to that hand slot and just walk near crops and it auto waters, i did away with it and just use a moisture tower, free's up having to use the dang thing

I have done this, I run over my seeds that are doing what looks like crying for water and they don't get wet! What am I missing?

once it is equipped you walk over to the soil patches and stand there for a bit

Okay, I don't understand what I'm missing. I don't have a hand slot, only a weapon slot. In fact, my menu looks a little different. What's going on? This game has so much potential but for crying out loud, it needs to explain more.

First of all, the slot to the right of your weapon is your offhand slot, secondly, when you're in the equip menu and select an item in your inventory that can be equipped there is a prompt with the button you can press to automatically equip the item, with the magic watering can in your offhand slot you simply stand on dry dirt and it becomes wet dirt, once you see it for the first time you'll understand, but the items in the game need much better descriptions as to what they do, I share your frustrations.
