McAfee says RF 9.5 executable is a virus

Ever since I've upgraded to 9.5, McAfee kills the software 30 seconds in and says the executable is a virus. Anyone else has this?

We've had some false positives show up with our DVD-based version, but I think you're the first to report issues with the Steam version.

You should be able to tell McAfee to allow the executable and put it back. You might need to reinstall or validate files to get it back up and running.

You may have a different file that's affected, but the same principle applies.

We're working on a fix to prevent this from being necessary.

Thanks for your quick reply. Yes there were two more files that showed up after a full system scan:
- RealFlightHelper.exe (Thread found: GenericRXMJ-OI!460FC1622CD6)
- RealFlightHelper_Admin.exe (Thread found: GenericRXMJ-OI!740AEE07E925)
Clicking on those just guides me to the McAfee website, it won't show any identified virus/trojan/etc.

Another update. When trying to restore quarantined items from McAfee RealFlight.exe is not an option. Instead these are two different options I found after trying twice:
- ClientRegistry.blob
- GameOverlayRenderer.log
When restoring one RealFlight.exe is restored. Then after starting RF9.5 McAfee kills it again and the process starts over. Is there a way to roll back to 9.0?

I had the same issue, except from Windows Defender instead of McAfee, from the Steam version. I updated virus definitions from Defender today and it is now working.

I'm curious to know why it was flagged, there are tons of indie games on Steam that don't have this issue...but it's all working now, so I'm assuming it's all good.

I had the same problem while installing RF9.5. I got messages from F-Secure Sense instead of MacAfee. I followed the instruction from Redbeard, installed public beta version, and the problem solved.

August 2021 The Software is still giving Virus alerts for Ransom ware so McAfee wont let the install complete. Even if you tell it to restore. Trying to upgrade to the Public Beta but cant get it to download.

I got the Public Beta to install ( Launch it from with in steam, not the main desktop icon) but unfortunately. I get the same virus warnings and it wont run.

Got it to work. But I had to turn of the virus scanner to get the install complete, then turned it back on and could run the Beta Flight Sim from Steam OK. Will run a Virus scan again to see if the scans will keep quarantining it.
