FYI the Answer is no, you must use a dongle....

I'm able to use my Radiomaster TX16S with the USB cable that came with it. No issues with OpenTX and Realflight from what I am experiencing.

I think you can. The dongle just converts a transmitter buddy lead format so that it looks like a PC joystick. Many of the open type transmitters already have a USB interface that allow the transmitter to behave as a USB joystick - if your transmitter can do that then you don't need a dongle. The dongle is just for transmitters with proprietary interfaces (like my Futaba).

i dont use a dongle for my Jumper T18 and my Futaba T16IZ i just use the USB-C cable and plug in the radio to the compter.

I'm using RF9.5 and fly Spektrum but also use the Radiomaster TX16S with USB-C and it will also bind wireless to the Spektrum dongle.

it should not matter and the important thing is transmitter is using DSMX etc....

Using USB works great, and you can turn off the RF so battery lasts a lot longer. Using Radiomaster TX16S.

That's correct. All you need is a standard USB cable.

As long as Windows recognizes your device as a USB game controller it will work in Realflight.
The need for a special dongle has been removed around version 8.
