How are trolls prevented?
I just heard of the game for the first time and it seems like such a nice idea. But how do you prevent trolls / people going to spread negativity?

As best I understand it, the primary means of dealing with trolls is for players to report them, which will then go to the devs for manual review. This includes reporting requests, but also reporting responses if you get a troll reply from someone.

One of the choices we made which helps reduce bad behavior, is that letters written to individuals aren't public and cannot be replied to. So trolls will never get any feedback or satisfaction from being mean.
I've seen quite a few people promoting their Youtube channels in the paper airplanes.

I kinda thought that this game would also allow for pen-pal type friendships. Is this a thing that is possible, or is it basically impossible to carry on any long-form conversation?

I've been removing those as they get reported. I can create an auto filter if it continues.

For safety and simplicity, Kind Words is designed for short, structured exchanges. When you get in to pen-pal type conversations, there's a whole new world of considerations we're not able to accommodate right now. Sorry!

If you will moderate it, you will kill the game. ANYTHING can be offensive these days. And you never know if you can even say certain WORDS or discuss issues. Sooner or later you will get reported and then you will leave and never come back.

How will you know that someone reported your message though? The point of this is to send stuff out into the world without knowing if anyone will ever read it anyway.

I got some weird message when I logged in to game. Something that my response was a joke and someone didn't like it. It was not a joke btw, I just said what I would do in that situation. Apparently you need to moderate your own thoughts before you say something. I don't like censorship. Got me really upset.

Sorry you got upset by the message. To be clear: you were NOT censored. Your response went exactly where you wanted it to and they received it. They reported their feelings about the message to me and I wrote you a note. I'm sorry if my explanation was inarticulate.

Learn what a real slippery slope is before trying to look pseudo-intellectual. You weren't even close

"Trying to look pseudo-intellectual"? I think you meant "trying to look intellectual", which is what a pseudo-intellectual would do. Learn what a pseudo-intellectual is before calling others pseudo-intellectual.

As to the "discussing issues": Which issues, and why do you think the game is a forum for discussing them?

As to the words: This is a game about spreading kind messages. I find it hard to believe that there will be enough people offended, even though offence is and always was subjective by nature, to "kill" the game.

As to the slippery slope:

If we allow people to report messages, they will report all the messages and the game will die.

(... because people can find anything offensive...)

It's almost a textbook example.
