Countries STILL go "out of business".
Just once, just once I would like to be able to take one of the main countries over. Every single time they go out of business, turn grey and screw the game up. And I would just like to point out how dumb that mechanic is. Please show me one country at war who went belly up and the invading country had to just pick up thier toys and go home.

PLEASE REMOVE THIS MECHANIC!!!
Its stupid
ruins games
is completely unrealistic.

No not really, were the Germans forced to go home?
Speaking of Germans I doubt any Nazi got paid during the last months of their reign, but yet still kept fighting.

Like I said show me a country that went "out of biz" while at war and the opposing country had to go back home and the broke country got to stay as itself and eventually thru RNG reform.

France 1940, come on lol.

All that needs to be done is simply 2 things.
When a country gets to that point if its at war then the country is allowed to go negative balance but the bills keep getting paid. There is this thing called borrowing money that real life countries do. The USA is in debt how many trillion?

If not in war then the country starts to sell off assets and lower its spending on the military until it can get back into the "black" and out of the "red".

Why is this current out of biz turn grey thing even in the game?

Russia, 1917?

russia had a revolution and the new government was not at war

This has been discussed many times, with justification. I've been screwed by this poor design feature many times. Yet nothing has ever been done about the problem. It is an action that is contrary to history and human behavior.

A country which is utterly defeated to the point that it disintegrated, usually has some sort of rump government who will then sign a humiliating and severe peace treaty and is often simply gobbled up by the victor.. I'd like to point out:

Assyria, Persia, Babylonia, Greek states, Rome, Napoleonic Wars, the Confederacy, 1870, 1914 (Imperial German, Austria-Hungary, Ottoman Empire anyone?), 1945...

There's a lot more that could be added to this list, but I suspect you get my point.

It is something which ought to be changed. Period. Full Stop.

You forget the treaty of Brest-Litovsk. A humiliating treaty which gave away large amounts of territory in exchange for peace.

I rest my case, your honor....

They should at the very least make invasions in progress automatically succeed instead of automatically failing. Doing away with the collapse mechanic altogether would be a better solution.

Agree, countries just becoming a nothing state is not a fun or good solution, right now my game has Italy and France in 1903 not existing... like what are we supposed to do with them? Takes decades for them to recover their old territory if at all. This being territory I was conquering when they just up and dissolved.

Provisional governments, either legitimate or puppet regimes, were what usually happened after mass collapses in the more recent history the game tries to model. This "ungoverned territory" reminds me of the rebels' provinces you usually take in an early Total War campaign, grey flags and all lol.

Great Idea!

A very reasonable fix, and one which could be done by simply changing probably a yes/no code.

Are you listening Dartis?

In the Reality the "nation" not desolve, the only way to destroy a nation is to conquer it and absorb it by transforming it and inserting it into your own nation, otherwise the nation remains or becomes a colony if conquered (which can then rebel) but thus dissolve out of nothing? it's just an easy way to make a nation disappear and probably because the devs don't know how to make a nation conquer or spawn colonies and how to manage that.

This just happened in my 1900 Japan campaign. 8 years of war with China, 3 changes of government, and they dissolve into "Ungoverned Territory." All ongoing land invasions stopped because "the territory changed hands" or something to that effect.
Let us conquer these "rebels" or like Jabberwock said, let the current land invasions succeed at the very least. What kind of standing army would an "Ungoverned Territory" have any way?

There wasn't a square inch of French soil post 1940 that was not controlled or in pursuit of being controlled by a foreign power. OP is right. It's a dumb mechanic. There are only 2 outcomes of a war, peace treaty or total occupation.
