Ultimate Admiral: Dreadnoughts

DIP difficulty settings
First of all many thanks to Brother Munro for still working on the mod.
I've taken a look in the game and mod after several month. Brother Munro mentioned in a video on youtube that the AI gains a small (income?) bonus on 'normal'. So my question is about the setting 'beginner', which didn't exist the last time I played. Does the player get any bonus there or does the AI get some penalty?

Beginner is mostly meant for countries such as Portugal or early japan, when you are totally broke.

I played Japan. But what does Beginner exactly do? I'd prefer a setting with no bonus or malus for me and the AI.

Sorry to knock Brother Munro and his effort but currently the DIP is not an improvement...

The AI dog pile on everyone, definitely needs fixed as its pretty much breaks the game.

Whatever was done to armor has made any gun that's not the largest you can put on the ship class pointless... IE 7.9's on CL's 11.9's on CA's etc..... HE does nothing... AP is the only thing that works....

Which creates an entirely different problem... DD's with .8 armor while already being impossible to hit typically now when are hit bye guns made to hit them like for instance a 2.9 inch now do nothing as they don't pen because the armor tweak is crazy.... which leads to DD's spamming torpedo's is now the ultimate weapon in game....

And then the horrible economy for some of the smaller nations like Portugal is NUTS... Portugal is neigh impossible to play....

And finally stupidly low amount of tonnage needed for an invasion is just broken...

And the fact that the AI can blockade your county without even putting a ship out to sea if they have even a fraction of tonnage in your sea zone "IN PORT" LIKE WTF.....

Fix the above please.....

Maybe the poster above should get an understanding of what is DIP and what is vanilla before lashing out.

Hint; ai "dog pile on everyone" *, tonnage for invasion and the blockade issue is vanilla

*it builds up, no matter how much we edit tension and other features we have access to, to a point where it all just goes nuclear

The player gets no bonuses or negative traits ever.
for the "beginner" mode; (vanilla atleast)
ai_difficulty_easy_income_multiplier 1
ai_difficulty_easy_aggression_multiplier 0.85
ai_difficulty_easy_tension_multiplier 0.65

Other than that, ai and player gets and have the exact same abilities, no cheats given to the ai, no matter what people say about magic hits from the ai. It's all down to pure chance

Use Soft capped HE and fire it when crossing the T or when your guns cannot penetrate.
it is also a good destroyer and TB counter.

Why should you need 80,000 tonnes to conquer an island with a 3k troop garrison when you have sea superiority ?

Keep warships to defend your home.

Sorry but vanilla's issues are very different I have a very good understanding of the differences in them....

In Vanilla yes you get some A goes to war so B C and D follow suit ...
But in DIP.... Every single nation dog piles on 1 nation one at a time until most of the nations are destroyed..... I have never seen that happen in vanilla nor in the short amount of time it takes to happen in DIP....

And vanilla's tonnages to conquer stuff maybe too high but DIP's are way to low you can go on a rampage with 10 CL's 30,000 tons is entirely too little tonnage needed....

Keep warships to defend your home.

You can leave warships in port at home and still end up blockaded bye ships that don't even set sail and are in port....

As Portugal I was constantly blockaded and not even a ship was in the water.... Because the combined strength of ships in port in the atlantic for nations I was at war with was somehow large enough to blockade, thats another issue it seems you can be blockaded with less naval power then the target has which again makes zero sence....

Honestly right now DIP is a mess.... And I think if you asked brother munro he would likely acknowledge this fact.... Or atleast I hope he would....

Just send a couple torpedo boats to sink their capital ships, and yes dogpiling is annoying

Uh, you do realize that Portugal is a speed bump in the world? Do you expect it to rival the US or Britain economy wise? The minors being playable is going to be super hard. It's like playing Spain with their balls cut off.

I don't play the NAR or DIP mods myself, I think they take too much out of the game like submarines and mines, but I salute anyone who goes to the effort that Brother Munro does and that he offers his work to everyone free of charge- and it's well documented what the mods do.

If you feel compelled to play Portugal or some other minor, be prepared to be crushed even if you do everything perfectly.

I would expect that the the province of Portugal itself would atleast have an income on par with the spanish provinces in the iberian penninsula not 1/3rd Simply raising that damn provinces value up to a decent level could help out portugal a ton.... it makes no sense that the specific home province has a gdp around 1.5M when most of the spanish provinces are upwards of 3-4M...

I would bump up the gdp output of the home province too around 5-7M have it on par with French provinces and that might help portugal actually be able to afford "ONE" Capital ship lol....
Here's a hot tip.

1. If Brother Munro is doing a mod, it's up to him what economy he gives the added countries. He's getting paid zero to make these mods but is generous enough to share them with other players.
2. Brother Munro has done videos and instructions on how to do the mods, and discusses what can / cannot be modded. Again, gets paid zero to do this.
3. If you want Portugal to have a different economy, watch the videos on how to mod. You can either tweak DIP (I'd recommend doing that since 99% of the work, testing, and polishing has already been done) or do the whole thing yourself and then share the results with the community- or not, up to you.

The game designers left the door wide open for mods, even built a .json converter into the game.
Go to about 16 minutes into this video and it shows how to edit your GDP.
