Crew Quarters setting might be unintentionally misleading?
So, random stray thought. The Crew Quarters setting may not have the best labels for people who don't already know what it does.

Currently, it goes from Cramped to Standard to Spacious. Now, given the name of the slider, and without prior knowledge of what it does, I would assume that this controls crew morale, not size. You can, of course, hover over the slider to see what it does, but given the large amount of depth from second one, it's reasonable to assume new players might miss this.

Cramped and spacious don't necessarily describe the density of people, only how much room is allocated to them. In fact, wouldn't it make more sense for a "cramped" ship to have more crew crammed in to a tighter space, while a ship that's "spacious" would have more room dedicated to fewer crew?

Instead, how about the slider go from limited (Or restricted), to standard, to expanded crew quarters. This is more clear, IMO. It's a minor change, and might not even be that useful, but it might help some people understand the game a bit quicker, which I think makes it worth it.

Or just rename the whole thing "crew size"...

i actually thought it was related to morale. Ya renaming it to something else would make sense.

It seems like "quarters" should be replaced with "stations". The descriptions I've seen seem to relate more to efficiency in the crew jobs eg. damage control, gunnery accuracy/reloading etc.

Yea, in UA:D it looks like it describes stations.

Theoretically though.

Cramped quarters mean less sleeping space (hot bunking), fewer heads and showers, smaller galleys and wardrooms etc. It also means cramped fire control positions, turrets and engine rooms. Supposed to affect the performance of the crew long term while operating away from the base.

WW2 era KM design choices could be described as cramped, RN as normal and USN as spacious. But again different ships had it differently.

BTW, RTW2 also has a fourth level of this as a colonial upgrade, in my understanding it's airconditioning plant and extra stores of food and water.

I was still making this mistake when far from new. Didn't realize until some time in the 1.6 beta. I worked at sea for a few years (civilian, not military) and have definitely seen cramped, normal, and spacious quarters. Did exactly as you said, and assumed cramped quarters would allow me to have more crew on the ship.
