Is the game as bad the reviews?
I've been aiming this game for the last 2 years and now it's finally out it gets review bombed by veterans.

I love all the other games by the dev and I am happy as long as they keep updating it.

Is the game in a condition where it's this bad?

It's absolutely playable and is still getting improvements, as I said in my review. Every time I play it I keep spotting places that clearly need improvement (Why can't I quit the game straight from the campaign mode or ship builder? Why can't I select multiple objects at once in the ship builder and move them as a group, which would really help to easily balance the ship? Why do some countries end up with ludicrous GDPs in campaign mode?) but it's still a very engaging game.

The ship builder and custom missions are launch quality.

The only problem is the campaign, which has often counter intuitive behaviour, lack many options and diversity

There are some bug, but none game breaking in my opinion.

I enjoy this game a lot

It's a game with some very tall highs and a few rather deep lows.

The game released before a fully baked state, the reviews are angry at the premature launch and the anxiety over development being abandoned. There's a small amount of hope that the campaign might be playable in a few months, but if it's not, there won't be further updates after the summer.

Its a work in progress and sometimes they take a small step backwards where stuff is buggy but the giant leaps forward make the game look like one of those games that will be on your computer for a decade and give you massive amounts of replayability.

If they ever figure out how to multiplayer campaigns online that would be awesome.....timho the part that suffers the most is that the AI isnt a good opponent in the long campaign.

Devs could do themselves and us a huge favor by opening UAD to modding Workshop...

There is simply too much in this game that needs fixing, adjusting, improving. There's no way devs could complete even half of that by this summer. Let modders help!

Yeah it's pretty bad lol. They gave up and gave themselves a pat on the back for a job well done. Since they branded this a "full release" they're only supporting it until the summer meanwhile you can't even order a group of ships to move without them all clumping up together in the middle.

The devs aren't receptive to feedback they blamed their shoddy shovelware's failure on the community being unreasonable, etc

Not worth the buy like most abandonware by this dev. Seems to be a constant theme with them now ever since they were acquired by a mobile phone game publisher.

The time sink to play the campaign is significant. It's hundreds of turns and features like the Tech development take hundreds of turns to develop. Further, the devs have put in AI crutches that range from aggravating to truly annoying. One is that AI ships execute rapid zig zags to throw your targeting off, every time you turn your ship the AI turns ships to steam away opposite your course, this also cuts down on your accuracy. The time to kill has been increased as a result. In real life, naval battles spanned long hours and days but this is a game.

The graphics are well done and improving for the battle scenes but maneuvering ships can be challenging and ships constantly run into each other. The AI ignores your targeting instructions and starts shooting at other targets and resists attempts to override the unwanted targeting.

Just read the discussion threads. I've stopped playing the campaign game and play the custom battles when I do play.

Hmm... It seems strange that you are asking other people's opinions on how you should spend YOUR money.

i own and very much enjoyed all the other games of the ultimate series.
i have 377 hours in this game and gave it a bad review and stand by it.
That said i got a solid 40-80 hours of fun out of this while designing ships. if you get this game for a price tag that is reasonable for that amount of hours and you like tinkering and enginnering than its imo worth it. you eventually drop the game after being frustrated by everything else in it but there is fun to be had until then.

I'm in the minority, but feel strongly that NO, the game is not as bad as some reviewers would try to make you believe. Words like "unplayable" and "garbage" are 100% hyperbole and do not accurately represent the game. There is also a completely inappropriate habit of calling what is clearly a feature in the game, a bug, just because the reviewer either does not understand it or does not like it. While the game is certainly not perfect, it is also not terrible and easily worth every penny of the $35 I paid for it. I've been playing my latest campaign for about 40 hours so far and have seen exactly THREE, very minor bugs...one of which was corrected with two mouse clicks and none prevented me from playing the game.

People who bought the game will usually give an honest review.

Are you asking other people's opinions about chess or poker? What's the point of getting someone else's opinion about a game until you've tried it yourself?

Don't foget that you don't get to pick which missions your ships go on. It's all RNG based.

The AI often gets to solo one of your Light Cruisers with one of their Heavy Cruisers and countless other weight mismatches.

I play the campaign, and the logic of the missions that the game gave me is quite understandable and definitely not random.

I find that the campaign is 'unplayable' and currently low quality; technically you can actually play the campaign but there are so many missing, badly designed or simply broken elements that it isn't enjoyable to play. Not to mention that the longer the game goes on, the slower it becomes.

I bought this game purely for the campaign and that has been a disappointment.
