Historical periods in the game?
Hi

I've noticed that the ships in this game are mainly from WW1 and possibly WW2. Is this the final period, or is it possible that there will be cold war ships in the game in the future?
Thanks

Game initially ended in the 1930's, then 40's, then 50's, due to player demand. Due to changes in tech in RL, the game is stretched as it is to extend to the 40's/50's. That's a developer statement, not my opinion.

the game goes towards the end of the modern battleship era, the 40s mostly, but have hulls that are what if battleship development continued. as a frame of reference the Bismark was one of the largest ships ever made at over 40,000 tons and you can design an endgame ship at over 100,000 tons dwarfing the real life ships.

Should be noted that while the campaign goers to 1965, the technology level in the game pretty much caps out at 1930/1940...

so, while the game technically goes beyond that point in time, the technology doesn't

(and obviously no aircraft or carriers)

So if I understand correctly, is it possible that there will be guided missile ships at some point in the future?

probably when cows fly,

the current hull forms are up to about 1930ish designs, while all other tech is late 1930's.

Which is EXACTLY where it should be for a game about DREADNOUGHTS.....
(The early age of, the Age of, and the Sunset of DREADNOUGHTS.)

You're looking for a cold war game. This will never get to that age of tech.

No, I would say that you do not understand correctly. There are no plans for that to happen in this particular game.

Past about the 1950s the entire equation changes quite substantially, to the point that a lot of the existing tech tree would likely have to be re-engineered.

For starters, while you can kinda argue against CVs still as it is - that being the point of this game - it'd become increasingly difficult to ignore the fact that they exist post-WWII, when they overtook battleships at the capital ship, because post-WWII very little construction happens on anything bigger than a light cruiser. There's plenty of refitting some of the vast horde of ships built during WWII, but actual new build reflects this new reality that it's aircraft carriers and then everything else.

I know this is not what you're specifically asking, but I'll throw out that there is a similar game called Rule the Waves 3. It is a 2D game; not remotely as visually appealing as UAD. But the gameplay is arguably deeper and more complex in many areas. RTW3-to-UAD being "chess-to-checkers" might be a bit of an exaggeration, but not much of one. RTW3 goes into the 1970s timeframe, and does include carriers/aviation and eventually missile-firing ships. I'll also mention that the "quality gap" between player ships and AI's auto-design ships usually tends to be narrower in the RTW series.

I enjoy both. The two games are similar enough that I couldn't claim "they scratch different itches"...but I think it would be fair to say "they scratch the same itch in different ways." I'd recommend that anyone who likes one should probably take a close look and watch some YT gameplay of the other.
