In the campaign, since my engines (second engine type... not sure what the name is) were the best I could use, it allowed me to choose them, but in the designer, the engines were showing as obsolete. I have a feeling this is happening with the other tech, where the tech trees are not advancing at the same rate.
"Fixed an old problem of auto-design which could result in accepting and validating inferior ships, when there were more than 5x failed attempts."
i reckon that whatever they used to fix that had flags for extra minimums for weapons and funnels that someone forgot to separate from the player auto designer.
When you desing a ship your engineers can make mistakes and your ship is not operational, so you can't even build them.
Just use "view" on the broken ship, then "copy" fix the issue, leave the design screen and deleted the bad ship design, keep the one you have modified.
if its not a bug then its a failure as a UI
