Ultimate Admiral: Dreadnoughts

Very long loading time due Campain start
Hi folks !

May i've a problem with my loading time at the beginning of a campain.

Here a example - I choose the start date of 1910 for the germans. As next, the is a loading screen incoming and the whole loading process needs more than 15 mins until i abort his nonsense.

Is this a known issue or do i have a problem with my computer ?

GTX 1060 6GB
16GB RAM DDR4

If you look closely towards the lower right of the screen you can see in dim letters the current month and year of the campaign. You can watch it go up one month at a time as it simulates the game. It won't make it go any faster, but you can see that time is progressing and it isn't just hanging there.

Oh boy, is it a known issue or what! it is unknown why, to start in 1910, the game starts in 1880 and simulates everything, including the designing, redesigning, and refitting of their ships for 30 years of evolution. Yes, it's dumb.

I have heard suggested start the game, then go watch a movie.
Utter rubbish!
For a start the campaign history only commences in 1890, not 1880 Also any new campaign setup *always* starts 4 years before your chosen date. For a 1910 campaign the load calculation starts in January 1906 and progresses from there.
I've just tried it and a 1910 German campaign load time was just over 5 minutes.
My setup is similar to the OP's except I have an i5 CPU.
I would check if you are loading some app that is not compatible with this game. That's the only reason I can think of to explain why most players have no problems but some do.

As it happens, I still think 5 minutes is too long but I put up with it because, for me, the game is so good in many other ways.

Yes, 5 minutes is a long time but I wouldn't have thought you would get much sleep in that short time :)

They should just have preset starting conditions for each nation at each year instead of making the game play itself up to the starting year.

I don't really know because I'm no expert, but I would have thought your solution would mean the game played pretty much the same for each nation and for each starting year. I had presumed the point of building a start situation over 4 years was to introduce slight condition changes for every nation and, indeed, every ship. To use your method and to maintain replayability the condition changes (random numbers if you like) would have to be calculated anyway after loading the "fixed" conditions. This would obviously take just as long as the method being used now.

But, as I said, I don't really know.

Uurggh!

Tried to play my 1st campaign last night. 1930 start, Japan... after half an hour of loading I quit.

Is it only like this for a NEW campaign? If I actually get the campaign running will it load reasonably?

Thanks.

As I started a new campaign yesterday, I thought I'd check loading times and for me they have improved greatly. I loaded a new Russian Campaign, 1910 start and from the time I clicked "Start Campaign" until the "Click to Continue" first appeared, the time was a couple seconds over 3 minutes. Not bad at all.
And I have an off-the-shelf, HP desktop, with 16 GB of RAM, and integrated graphics.

This situation seems peculiar to a certain minority of players and it may be there is something in their setup that the game doesn't like.

If I start an 1890 campaign it will take between 2 and 3 minutes. A 1910 campaign will take slightly longer but a 1940 campaign can take 5 minutes or so. I do not have a top range computer but it would probably be described as average.

If I had this problem I would post in the Technical section and give my full rig specs. It would be good if the Devs could see just what setups are incompatible with the game and maybe figure out a way to fix it.

I did just try a new campaign for Japan 1930 and it finished loading in almost exactly 7 minutes. That is a long time compared to most of my campaign starts.
