Scrap or mothball - whats the difference?
I just found out that if you remove the crew, the ship becomes mothballed and you get offers on it.(cost -67% as an example) Seems like quite a large loss of money.

What happens if you "scrap" a ship? Nothing? Do you get money? Research? I thought I read somewhere that u get cost plus a little bit extra. This does not make sense though, so I can mothball and sell to allies at a massive loss, or scrap and make a profit? Who is gonna mothball, if they want to sell the ship? Really confused, what is the better option?

You get money if you scrap but NOT as much as selling. The advantage to scrapping is that the ship is gone immediately, no longer costing upkeep or taking up port space.

Mothballed ships still cost some upkeep and take up space. Each minor ally can make, at most, one purchase offer a month for mothballed ships. If you mothball a lot of ships, with few minor allies, it can take years to sell them, while costing upkeep the whole time.

I mothball when getting rid of a few ships. If I'm getting rid of a lot, I often scrap most and maybe mothball a few.

Thanks, I thought -67% of value was really horrid for selling, but I guess it is worse if you scrap...
