What happened to the swastika Reich flag?
I don't understand the need to censor historical emblems. I don't care if it offends people, history is important and should be left as it is. not changed to appease a small demographic of people. has it been removed? did someone complain? Or was it just an accident as part of a patch?

Germany only gets the Swastika flag if a far right government is elected.

It used to show up when you started the campaign in 1940 as well as for the default navy passed 1935. I was just wondering if they removed it for some reason, sounds like you're still seeing it appear in campaign?

Welcome to our brave new and politically correct reality. I didn't say 'historically'. So, nothing that offends. Is what it is.

Bravely silencing every part of history that the mob deems "dangerous."

Nazi flag is banned in certain countries so if they want to sell the game there they can't put it in.

Got it to appear when Germany voted in a far right government.

Yes it's banned in a lot of countries but video games can still use/show swastikas eg Wolfienstein

Point is history is just that history, the woke mob can try all they like to change or erase it, it still exist it still happened so so sorry their tender little feelings might get hurt-NOT!!!! When history repeats the meek weak sheep will cower in fear with little understanding of what's happening or how to deal with it. While those that remember will have seen it coming and act accordingly because they still possess the fortitude and grit to deal with real problems and not cry and whine, but step up do what the real men have done ironically enough thru out history and fight for what's right and just! Just my 2 cent's worth and if it offends you, you just help prove my point.

Yeah It is quite weird...
Since the German 1940 campaign starting text legit says
"Adolf Hitler took power and Nazi Germany is a thing now"
There should be a swastika flag. Not some edited German empire flag,

Go tell the concentration camp dead.

There are very valid reasons for historical cultural boycotting, and ultimately, it's up to the developers and publishers of a video game as to what they include or not. Don't like it? Don't play it. That's a pretty simple equation.

In case anybody is confused by what i meant by "works both ways" it's like this and i don't care whether others agree, including these symbols equates to some Nazi sympathizers (i'd use different terminology but w/e) using it to glorify what was in the majority of most, an evil regime, on the other hand washing everything clean of this history is not really the premise for avoiding who knows when in the future, and as well historical accuracy does increase the immersion somewhat, but hey we know the reasons why, it's not that difficult to use ones imagination, and anyone who argues this vearmently enough would suspiciously sound like a Nazi sypathizer to me, that is not the influence society aspires for the next generation, so as you can see there is valid argument on both sides, but i don''t think too many players are going to boycott the game on account of not including these insignia, so i doubt the devs would lose too much sleep over this...

What I find amusing is communists have caused more harm and destruction than the Third Reich ever did. However they'll wave their hammer and cycle around and nobody bats an eye. You should either apply your policy equally or not at all...

Love it or hate it, there is at least one local market (Germany), where there are rules about usage of the swastica flag in game. You ignore those, you can't sell it in Germany, simple as that. And yes, I know it has been reported that those rules have been changed recently, but this is merely a misunderstanding following a misleading report in international press releases. Only the guidelines for application of the unchanged law have been modified somewhat, allowing for depicting Nazis visibly as Nazis - as long as it serves an EXCLUSIVELY educational and/or historic purpose.

Which, in day to day handling will probably boil down to: "you may kill Nazis who really look the part in every respect. You are NOT allowed to play as their side, though".

So, if you want to know why any game developer may be incentived to NOT include the swastica flag in game...its probably because they want to sell to the german market, too.

Both of you should really stop with this garbage. Nobody here wants to hear it, and we're certainly not going to bother engaging you in a discussion. Just leave.

It would be great if people could read path notes before assuming the developers are trying to "censor" history.

Patch notes from the major update adding politics system:
"The flags of the Major Nations change depending on their Governments, for example, when Nationalists win the elections in Germany, the Nazi flag is used."

The reason why the Nazi flag is not used for Germany when starting a campaign in the 1940s is because when a new campaign is generated the current government for each Major Nation is randomised, meaning a majority of the time Germany dosn't start with a Nationalist government.

In Germany it's illegal to show the Nazi flag unless it's for historical and educational purposes (IE say a museum with WWII planes). Alongsides others propaganda symbols.
Videogames have been allowed since 2018 to use them, but it's on a per game basis.

And before the zombies comes yelling "woke brains", that law has been in effect for decades and affect a lot of different symbols.
Quotting from Wikipedia the relevant part, feel free to go and learn :
"The German Strafgesetzbuch (StGB; English: Criminal Code) in section § 86a outlaws "use of symbols of unconstitutional organizations" outside the contexts of "art or science, research or teaching". [...]
The law has primarily been used to outlaw Fascist, Nazi, communist, Islamic extremist and Russian militarist symbols. "
Many games get a "german" version with those symbols removed for this specific market. Like drugs name and Australia or skeletons and China.

Some eastern european countries also ban soviet symbols, but since they are a much smaller market for games, most game devs don't care.

So there you go. It's not censoring history, it's censoring people who want to destroy modern day Germany in this specific case.

People seem to forget that within the past year a bunch of far-right crazies including a government official in Germany were arrested because they were planning a putsch, and just a few years back there were investigations and dismissals because members of the Bundeswehr were found to be displaying Nazi flags and symbols on military property.

Nazis are still a threat, and Germany at least understands how dangerous they are. It's only a shame that more countries don't persecute Nazis and anyone holding Nazi-like beliefs.
