Slapping a patch every day is almost certainly breaking other parts of the game.
How about one patch on a test branch, get feedback, then publishing the patch every Tuesday?
I would rahter have then work on it more continuously and not do actionsim and publish every minor fix. Also, Reworking the parts of the game which are critisized the most in terms of balance isnt even difficult, you just need a guy with a lot of statistical knowledge as well as dedication towards finding a good balance.
Agreed. You fix something, it breaks something else. It is all inter-related, and whipping back and forth may break it worse than before.
But subs -- and this can't be overstated -- are campaign-destroying. The entire point of the campaign is to set up interesting ship combats that have significant consequences. Subs single-handedly defeat the entire point of the campaign. They're totally abstracted, so forget the ship combat -- which, again, is the POINT of the campaign.
And over time the campaign AI builds fleets that are overwhelmingly subs, thereby making ship combats (again, the POINT of the campaign) rarer and rarer.
@OP: If you publish a mod w/o subs I will be the first to subscribe. Thank you for working on this.
I would be OK if subs were on the battle map, and can be seen and tracked for your TB's and DD's to kill. Abstracting subs just doesn't work for me either.
I ran one campaign, where I had HUNDREDS of subs, and crushed the opponent.
gladly would already publish. I hope the game update cycles get more stable/slow down within a few weeks.
I honestly think your mod is the only thing that will save the game for me at this point. The campaign cannot be played with any enjoyment with the way the AI spams subs.
I tried to post a screenshot of my USA campaign that I'm now abandoning. [F11 doesn't seem to work in UAD? I tried posting in Artwork. anyway.] In the Politics screen, it shows China with 146 ships total: ALL subs. Spain with 137 ships total: ALL subs.
What is the POINT of playing a campaign like this? Why bother designing ships when you'll never get to control them in battles against an AI that ONLY builds subs?
I'm just astounded that the devs would introduce a campaign mechanic that completely defeats the purpose of playing a campaign. Totally unbelievable.
Unfortunately, with every minor patch the file needs an update. Theoretically, maybe a good coder with tons of .bat experience could generate a self-fixing solution but thats beyond my knowledge.
Im gonna stick around and publish a first test iteration for you to try as soon as the game is running on a stable version (without devs pushing repair patches) for more than a week.
+1
edit: i will test it today and publish here some time later.
