How the heck do you use mines.
So only just able to get back into the game after losing my college laptop to it dying, and… well I have a bone to pick with one of the features. How, in the ever loving world, do I deploy mines?! I’ve tried leaving my early minelayer in being, on defense, on sea control, all while at war, but they never, never seem to lay a single mine! It’s driving me up the wall at this point and I can’t find an answer anywhere. Heck can’t even seem to find a full answer other than one person on Reddit suggesting the in being while at war route. But it just seems to refuse to work.

Being at war is a requirement, yes.

Your ships need to have mines equipped, then they will automatically set up mine field. usually near your port, on offensive they will set up minefield near enemy port.

Minesweeper works the same way, your DD/TB need to have minesweeper equipped. and when you near enemy minefield they will automatically start minesweepiing. There will be a DC check, if enemy mine is too advanced your minesweeper may not be able to clean them up and ...*kaboom* *splash*

But numbers can counter quality. Bring more DD/TB with your capital ships can never be wrong.

Ships with mines in port automatically lay minefields around that port.

Minelayer submarines provide portable minefields.

Or cheap minelayers that don't require a lot of crew.

Thank y'all. Been able to see it now. I possibly missed it early one thanks to minefield being... well, tiny in the early game.

that's a thing...the level of minelaying tech installed on a vessel determines how many mines per turn it can lay. IIRC it starts at 30 and goes up to 160 for the highest minelayer tech. Since minefields can contain thousands of mines (7000 with max tech), if you only have a couple of ships stationed in a port with low level minelaying techs on them then it can take a long time to lay a minefield of appreciable size, especially if the enemy has DDs with minesweeping tech in the area, or heck, even just plows their fleets into them...sure, you do a bunch of damage, but all those exploded mines need to be replaced....
