German BB1 hull ideas (1890)
So, any idea what to do with that hull (for campaing 1890)? It seems no matter what I try, I end up with 60+% fore weight offset and incredible smoke penalty if I try make her go any faster than 16kn. When I let the UI design her for me, it's even worse- 100% fore all the time. I tried some ideas in random battles and it's as predicted- shoots even worse than a drunk stormtrooper...
(I know it's supposed to be Brandenburg class, but I just can't make her work...)

Any screenshots we can look at?

Well....I don't know about the smoke penalty but that fore weight offset is no problem.
Limit the displacement to 10400 tons to shorten the ship. I actually have more problems with the aft section having about 15% weight offset but it can be solved by fiddling for a bit.

Even with a huge front overweight pitch and roll stay quite low. 16.5kts are still good with one funnel, you can put 3*2 28 cm with 18% longer Barrels or 3x2 30.5cm with Standart lenght (didnt do this For a while, so Not Sure) on them, 50% more than a britsh BB, helping a bit If outnumbered.
Later i refit them with MK2 4*2 24cm (2 Centerline, 2 wing turrets).

BTW on german BB1 you can put funel between 2 islands, it helps a lot. Later as you get medium and big funel it gets simpler. My main complaint with german BB1-3 is too little space for main guns (12in mark1 is biggest for BB1, mk2 can be fitted to BB3). I hate german Dreadnaught III hull, on DN1 hull I can put same (or better) firepower, armor and speed.

Its historicaly, Brandenburg class carried 3*2 28cm, the first two classes of German pre dreadnought only 24cm as quick firing was rated higher over caliber as no QF guns over 24cm where avaible to that time in Germany.
But yes thats annoying...

It's the speed that counts and the ok accuracy.

Can fix weight issues with armor as a last resort to a strong degree.

Oh, I had no idea you can put funnel into that position. That actually helps a lot with the weight offset. Thanks

I tend to use 12 inch mains (without more caliber, without more length) and 2,9 inch secondaries in the middle part. And some on the Towers
Funnel also in the middle for weight distribution. I dont use the casemattes as well

The main guns can be upgraded that way.

I tried a pair of low-weight 9 inch mains with a bunch of secondaries, but wow the 12 inch guns are just so insanely accurate that I'd even be tempted to use a pair of shortened 12 inchers.

Anyway here is the best I could come up with. I know torpedoes are in a rough spot in the current patch but in close engagements against enemy battleships early on they can really tip the battle in your favour (they can even one-shot sometimes).

Tested against a variety of BBs 1v1, against 2-3 CLs and against 5-6 TBs.

12", 8" and 2" are the magical calibers. I frequently use 12.9" Long guns into the 1920s.

Yea I used to use 2" a lot but recently they just don't seem to cause any flooding on anything other than merchant ships, even 2.9" with the extra 10% length.

German BB 1 hull? 1890? simple... single barrel 12in guns, the penalties for 2 barrel turrets are extreme in 1890 at +50% reload time an -10% accuracy, i don't have all the math i did but a 2 barrel turret is only a tiny less than 10% dps increase and then only at very short range at almost X2 tonns. The other advice i have is don't put anything big (or at all) in the forward case-mate mounts, put more main deck armor (3+ in) and only but the bare minimum amount of funnels on the ship to get acceptable handling.
with the single barrels and some slightly later tech refits you can achieve some shockingly good long range accuracy with the big guns.

operational objective - make a stable platform - objective complete
consideration - forward batteries are 6inch - acceptable but will need upgraded later
opeartional conditions - must have 2 main gun broadside - acheived
intended role - coastal battleship / home flag ship - acceptable

theres a mental checklist i got those are attempts to word them for others.

started a new game as germany because the austro game is bugged to hell.
