So there's no way to edit the save games now.
It's not difficult to make a backup before editing the savegame file.
That is 105% correct. I'm a borderline pathological modder, scripter, software dissector, etc., but I also work in data processing so I am well aware of how critical it is to be able to trust your data. I would've done the same thing if I were one of the devs and it were up to me because I want to complete this project and release a good game. Therefore, as much as I hate it, if a significant portion of the playerbase consistently wastes my time by having me manually examine corrupted or compromised files, submitted through honest lack of awareness or outright lack of concern, for integrity just to keep my team from being misled and unable to so much as determine whether or not a bug still exists, or was perhaps even worsened for some users, I'd have no choice but to take such drastic measures as preventing any manipulation of data, even by experienced users such as myself who take careful measures not to impede the developers' work.
That paragraph was probably a little clunky but basically while I am adversely affected by the encryption (I liked not having to worry about my enemies dissolving and causing a "Game Over" due to overwhelming victory because I could edit the saves, for example), I am not surprised by their decision and I support it. They did the right thing, even if it hurt.
It gets really boring when your in 1906 and you only have basic guns, shells and hulls, but have radar tech 3.
