Tech tree suggestion
So, when you're sitting there researching, you have to go through a bunch of other crap before you get the techs you want. Like mark III 16-inch guns. This feels really annoying, because the game forces you to research mk.1 17-20 inch guns first, before it lets you get the one you want.

The suggestion is quite simple, make it so the players are more able to control what tech they're researching. It might make the tree a little more clunky, but being able to click a drop down, then select the tech they want to research up to without a bunch of other crap getting in the way would make it more satisfying I think.

I think you have some point.
Like as the naval officer. I should be able to say "No we don't want gun over 18 inches." Like in real world, many countries doesn't get to 18 inch guns and stay with 406 until the end of battleship. But it also become a balance issue, that player know which gun is most effective (there will be one, for sure) and can build a huge advantage against AI. And need to be take care before making change to the research.

At this point, I honestly feel 15/16 inch guns are probably the best you can get. Going higher then that results in large drops in accuracy, not to mention that even running SAP ammo, you just wind up overpenning anything the AI throws at you with virtual impunity. Frankly, even the smaller guns, 9-14 inch, are perfectly capable of ripping most AI battleships apart without a problem anyway.

Not to mention the sheer difference in weight that could be used for more useful points of ship building. Like speed or armor.

Larger caliber cannon are supposed to use with ultra-slow powder and super heavy shell, then use short barrel so it can pop enemy deck at about 16km. It is less "stable" than 16 inch long barrel cannons, but it is a great fun to see enemy ship blow up with only 2 or 3 hits. :D

Funny thing is, running 16-inch SAPBC with TNT-4 can one-shot enemy battleships without a problem. Also one-shots just about everything else.

I think you are on a campaign started from very early time. So the AI were significantly behind you on technology. If you go to custom battle and make both 1940 era tech, 16 inch gun will be less effective against enemy BB

Yes likewise. I want to be able to go "I want 15" guns next and quads" and then " the accuracy of this gun blows, please improve" - like in the real world ;)
