Serious lag time???

While playing the game, which I've enjoyed thus far, I have come across a problem with lagging, When loading a game...the loading screen [you know...with the old paintings and quotes] , the game"freezes up" or lags for an exceptionally long time....I'm talking three minutes...or more....no exaggeration! Is it supposed to take that long???
