You get 3 points every level up. Its expected that you will either hold points or partially spend them on some levels. Particularly for magic due to later ranks requiring 4, 5, and 6 feat points.
Anyway you haven't "lost" a point, you just need to fill in the rest next level.
But you can just fill in the remainder next time you level up. They’re not lost.
There is also a second benefit shown for the magic feats, "Mind Magic Focus" (or Spirit Magic or whatever). That's what actually enables you to cast level 1/2/etc. Mind Magic spells, by increasing your Mind Magic School level. (I think this is a bit obtuse, frankly, and would prefer if each of those feats just increased X Magic School by 1 directly, without the "Focus" obscuring what that part does.)
