I finished it, which is saying a lot, but definitely does not deserve a 2nd play though anytime soon.
Perhaps you can share your pro strats that rendered the game a cakewalk?
Dont be a ♥♥♥♥. I am truly not that great at RPGs, but I have played a boat load of them.
It's not my fault the dev has no idea what balance is. There are multiple posts on the forum complaining about the non difficulty and grind fest of the end game enemies.
I went with custom characters outside of Roland. Every single one except Roland sucked ass story wise, so I dumped them as soon as I could. Grabbing some of the customs did give me early access to a larger party but it wasn't that far ahead of grabbing the pre-made NPCs. Whom btw do not have anything to contribute story wise outside of a few ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ lines. No true companion side quests to be found here.
My party comp was Tank Leader, Two Handed Warrior, tank heal Paladin, Ranger, Ranged Rouge, and finally earth wizard with end game electricity. Earth wizard gets some very useful summon abilities. Those were great to get to distract the enemy. Also the electric path does have a very badass map wide stun ability. It was only a one turn stun but very useful.
Now for the rouge there is the back stab ability. The back stab ability applies not to just melee, but to ranged attacks aswell. Your rouge can ♥♥♥♥ up the vast majority of enemies in the game from a very safe distance. The devs attempt to balance this op ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ was to make late game enemies immune to it. In fact the vast majority of the skills your party is going to gain throughout the game are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ useless endgame. The enemies have ridiculous immunities to almost all of your skills and resistances to melee attack. They also have super high health, so it is just a massive grind fest.
Still the game was a cake walk. My party could pretty much murder anything with ease. There were also ultra rich with a massive stock pile of potions that could flood Denver Colorado.
I don't think the game balance is that bad. What I've noticed is there is a massive difference between getting the drop on enemies via stealth vs. just fighting them normally. Stealth is extremely powerful, there's no reason you shouldn't be sneaking into every single combat. There's no way it fails if you end stealth before it runs out. The main issue is that even your non-stealthy people benefit so that Roland can smack on people. You can make an unwinnable fight easy if you get the drop on them, two rounds of free attacks will really swing things in your favor.
If you don't make use of the surprise mechanic, the game would probably be a lot more difficult. Something to consider. I found the early game difficult, but that is partly because I missed an early game dungeon and so my characters were underequipped and underleveled. Now I am at the tower north of Findol and the game is easier than it was, though I wouldn't call it effortless.
I don't like ranged backstab for the exact reason you mentioned. It has become an expectation from 5e and I hate it.
Also, you shouldn't complain about other people being ♥♥♥♥♥ when your post is full of superlatives. There's ways you can complain about things without being obnoxious.
No I do not think this is a competition. You need to stop being so damn sensitive. Just because I am refuting your argument doesn't mean I am trying to boast or one up you in some way. Stealth is a bs mechanic that does almost nothing. The game is in fact a joke in terms of difficulty.
The game was "a cakewalk" for you. It appears your opinion is not a common one.
Good job.
I never understand folks that are so bored they come to a forum where ostensibly, folks lingering would enjoy the game, and just come out saying how much it sucks.
What's your angle? Are you that bored?
People aren't being socialized into giving criticism in a constructive way, hence every bug, issue, or inconvenience becomes a childish meltdown. Absolutely no perspective. You see it everywhere. In a separate gaming forum I was in people were giving death threats because of delays. No wonder we are in our current political situation.
Anyway, if this guy found the game to be a cakewalk... I can't really prove or disprove it, so arguing about it is completely pointless. This could be an interesting discussion on game balance but instead it turns into a ♥♥♥♥ swinging contest.
For example, the simple engagement of me refuting your claim that stealth was the issue made you go into a tantrum. You tried to discredit what I was saying by claiming I had some sort of character flaw. Maybe if you approached the claim with some sort of evidence for or against we could continue the conversation. However you just crumbled and whined. You wonder why the world is the way you claim it to be? That would be why.
This post is a complaint. A simple straight to the point complaint. The game needs a serious overhaul to its combat mechanics and or a general re-balance if it wants to be something other than a just footnote in the endless trove of rpgs out there. The game made a significant initial splash when it 1st came out but has all but fallen off the face of the map since. The aesthetics and setting are what made the splash, but the bones of the game are seriously hollow. The game play is basic. It is the definition of vanilla. There is no real tactical anything to be found here. It is far too ezpz lemon ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ squeezy.
