Controller experience is awful
Feels like it was hastily tacked on to get Steam Deck Verified status but it's barely usable. Very unintuitive, no rebinding, can't access many UI elements without a mouse... It's just plain bad.

Fun game otherwise.

I'm not a fan of the fact you can't rebind the controller options in game either, thats gonna suck for future console ports to systems without a input api. But in fairness to the dev the layout is actually pretty damn useable once you swap out the joystick setting on the right trackpad with a regular mouse.

The game has excellent simultaneous input support, it's a little suprising the dev didn't do that for their default Steam Deck bind. You don't even need to swap out the triggers for mouse clicks or anything funky like that. Cursor jumps a bit if you go between the joystick or the trackpad. But why would you ever use the stick for cursor movement? Set it up for a rotary hotbar menu and call it a day.

Although I'm loving the game, I also felt that the controller configuration wasn't working very well for me. For example, there is no way to scroll up/down in menus and doing this with a controller is a hassle. So I created my own layout by modifying the official one. It is available here if anyone is interested: steam://controllerconfig/1069160/3344227426

The mapping is the following:

  • Left stick: move cursor
  • Right stick up/down: scroll wheel up/down
  • Right stick left/right: select action buttons
  • Directional pad: move character / scroll
  • A button: interact / wait
  • B button: menu / back
  • X button: select / move to cursor (mouse left click)
  • Y button: inspect / highlight interactables (mouse right click)
  • Left bumper: cycle sheets
  • Right bumper: swap characters
  • Back button: quick save
  • Start button: journal
  • Left trigger: select / move to cursor (mouse left click)
  • Right trigger + A button: inventory
  • Right trigger + B button: character sheet
  • Right trigger + X button: hide
  • Right trigger + Y button: toggle light source
  • Left stick button: console commands
  • Right stick button: show controller layout

yea it needs a rework. Controller support as it is now, is very unintuitive. Doesn't follow basic controller design layouts.

LOoks like its a fail,
anyways already had mine set up in xpadder with d-pad move, r-stick mouse, x and y as mouse buttons. Yep use that for a lot of games. It was working well.
