Lots of people have asked what The Dragon is or what It represents, I'll explain...
The game is lovecraftian and about the wars that gods wage and we are but ants trying to understand the bigger picture. We fight on the side of our god, our creator as mentioned in the last act. It's the movie Prometheus but with a central god like figure. They seeded us but we have become a nuisance somewhat.

The Dragon is in reference to the great dragon, Satan or before that known as Saturn. (Not to be confused with lucifer aka the morning star, Venus)

What the game shows is that our religion was based around real entities that were living , albeit extremely power and God like creatures. We didn't understand them and called them gods.

Lovecraft: greater cosmic entities battling it out on earth or just against humanity

Skald: greater cosmic entities (your god? protecting earth from the dragon but leaving in a space ship) (the dragon aka Saturn) battling it out on earth or just against humanity

Summary. The Dragon is in reference to Satan, the great Dragon who is in opposition to our creator in the game
