"Timber!" quest -- "No reward is necessary" question
Thanks for reading.

So I know this is a very gamer thing to ask, but when you save Lon's father from the coccoon of the giant spider, he asks how he can repay you. You have two options:

1. "No reward is necessary."
2. "Surely you have something?"

If you choose the second option, he gives you a Fine Handaxe and leaves. If you choose the first option, he just says, "Then you have my eternal gratitude!" and leaves.

I'd like to think that the dev has moved away from the standard thing in video games of ages past, which is that you're somehow rewarded better for doing the "noble thing" and refusing any reward. I just have to ask if this "eternal gratitude" somehow shows up later, or if we are really just taking nothing instead of a Fine Handaxe, and that's it.

Personally, I hope that that's the end of it, but I'm fascinated with the design decisions in this game so I thought I'd see if anyone knows if there's a long-term resolution to this.

Thanks!

I don't think so. You get your good feeling about it, thats your reward, he can use his axe on trees again. You probably don't need that axe, he probably needs it more.

You get nothing but eternal gratitude.

You never see him again.

You're in luck then. In this game, "no reward" is taken seriously. You never get any tangible reward and it never gets brought up again. In fact, there is another point in the game where, if you refuse an item offered to you, someone in your party may grumble but there are no long lasting consequences.

All you get is the satisfaction of roleplaying a decent character.

I dig it. Thanks!

Eh, you only need the hand axe if you screw up and don't have any light weapons for kat by the time you get started on her light weapons tree or the injury on a backstab one. Even then, it's an axe not a blade so you're still going to need a light blade later.

Not at all what I was asking, but I do appreciate the reply 👍
