I have some games on GOG,but on the whole I prefere Steam, where all my games are roofed under one app, plus like you get achivments and more..
i heard there were some late game issues with the insanity mechanic?
Arcanum is one of the best crpgs ever made, maybe even the best, it can take sometime to get into though.
Ill check out Stygian, thanks.
Betreyal at Krondor - FPP exploration and grid-based combat. exploration and story-focused. pregenerated character. good writing
Albion - underappreciated sci-fantasy with amazing top-down pixel art exploration and janky FPP dungeon crawling. very cool setting
But I would not recommend the earlier Wizardry games. The reason for this is that they play super slow. 8 also play slow but there are several mandatory mods that speed up the game and make it playable. The earlier games dont have that.
Here is a review for those wondering what its about

Avernum games on Gog are very much like this one - classic party RPG with large world to explore. And "Queen's Ambition" on Gog and steam. Gog is much better for these classic games. Some are new games that continue the classic style from the beloved Spiderweb software developer on Gog.
Dark Sun is very good and it is on Gog
also the famous Wizardry 8 is on Gog. I just bought it today and installed it.
If Wizardry 8 looks interesting to you, note that you can export your characters from Wizardry 6 to 7 and from 7 to 8.
And for Arcanum, I believe there's a fan patch available to help it run on modern PCs.
I agree that GOG has some real gems that aren't on Steam (Ultima series), and their games often run properly out-of-the box, in contrast to some Steam releases of older games. But the Avernum series, the Dark Sun games and Wizardry 8 are all available on Steam as well.
