Did I break the Deeper Dark quest?

I can't find the dagger in the caves under the lighthouse. Is it supposed to be in the locked chest near the dismembered smuggler, just south of the hidden tunnel that leads to the ladder into the lighthouse? I didn't find it there.

Is the key on the underwater corpse supposed to open that chest? I smashed the chest open before I found the key. Now I wonder if I somehow broke the quest by not opening the chest with the key. Now I've been all over the caves under the lighthouse, opened every chest, killed every monster...and no dagger. Is the dagger somewhere else?

I've reached a point where this quest is the only one I've received and not completed. Do I need to find the dagger for the game to progress?

Dagger is in the caves. Just not in the chest near smuggler. Try going deeper in the tunnels.

Deeper as in down to another level, or just farther into the tunnels? I was sure I'd been everywhere I could go.

The whirlpool maze that you found the corpse in leads to a different area if you go further into it.

You'll know you're there when you find 2 bodies on a slab. BTW: bring some blunt weapons, you'll need them.

I've seen other people recommend blunt weapons or classes that can spec into using blunt weapons in general, are they particularly good?

Further into the tunnels, where the water goes. If you encounter enemies - you are on the right track. Than there is a tunnel in water where you would have to swim through a mini-game (recommend taking a pen & paper, to create a map)

Thanks! I thought I'd been everywhere in the underwater tunnels, but your post motivated me to go back, and I finally found my way to the room I needed.
