I got the key from the corpse in the underwater tunnels but I can't find the chest or container it goes to in the caves and I'm running around in circles

Yup, that's what I was doing. Switch to him, strip his items, go into the pool: 7 oxygen. Same thing with the girl with 3 athletics. Got to be a bug or something since every other skill check takes the current character, and not the main character.

Do I need any stats at a certain level, i took the way north ( not the one with the key) and all i find is either the heel creature biting me or the cave with the 2 desiccated body but no dagger what am i doing wrong ?

In the cave with the desiccated bodies, you can search the one on the left and that will give you additional skill checks to perform.

If you unequip any item that has an encumbrance >= 0 from ALL characters, you get 8 oxygen charges. Maybe also who is the leader plays a role too. Didn't test that.

Leader doesn't matter it seems.

Yes, they patched it to default to 8 oxygen after everyone complained. Also it's only 'your' character that matters, not anyone else you hired to come along. When the default was 7 if you upgraded your athleticism and stripped your main character it would give you 8 oxygen too, no matter how heavy armour everyone else was wearing.

Thanks, I didn't test it that thoroughly / got to a wrong conclusion (that ALL characters need to unequip).

Maybe that patch makes sense. Not sure. I am on my first playthrough with a hierophant and not sure whether I will raise the athletics skill at all (also depends on the means like enchanted items or whether I need to spend points from level ups. All level ups so far only offered points to put into feats).
