SKALD: Against the Black Priory
A Deeper Dark quest
I got the key from the corpse in the underwater tunnels but I can't find the chest or container it goes to in the caves and I'm running around in circles

I didn't either, but I found a dagger in a different room inside the underwater tunnels, so I was happy enough with that that I didn't mind. Figure I'll go back later if anyone else finds what it's used on.
I just found the dagger in the underwater tunnels after posting, thanks though!
I think the key goes with the DC18 chest in the smuggler hideout? Northern part of the same cave. I'm not sure though, I just picked the lock on it
What is this dagger called? I found the Fine Cutlass of Defence in the chest with the smuggler's corpse but I can't complete the quest.
It's very obvious that it's a special dagger. Through an underwater tunnel and into a separate room.
There are two routes you can take through the underwater caves. One leads you to the key, which opens the DC18 chest in the smuggler's hideout. It is possible that, by the time you find the key, you've already opened the chest through other means, so it isn't essential.

The other route takes you to the item that the lighthouse keeper asked you to find (and which you can ultimately keep for yourself, apparently with no consequence).

On a side note: some of the chests seem to have loot that is not totally random but keyed to the main character or to the person opening them. In the case of the DC18 chest, Roland opened it and got a Fine Two Handed Sword. I suspect that if someone else opened it, they would get a different item that fit their skills better.

I've sometimes opened chests in Chapter 1 and found items that perfectly fit my main character- e.g. items that gave +1 to Diplomacy or +1 to Willpower, which made me think that those were not generated randomly.

I recall that Neverwinter Nights had a similar mechanic, where certain chests were programmed to yield weapons that followed your character's weapon proficiencies.

Thanks. It didn't occur to me that there might be multiple ways through the underwater caves.
Does anyone have directions how to find that quest item?

Start with the second option when you dive.
How do you get the key? I drown every time

Dive without any item equipped that gives you ENCUMBRANCE.

I unequipped all the items and I still only get 7 rounds of endurance no matter what character I use as the lead character. This isn't enough to get to the corpse, search, and get back to the entrance as far as I can tell. :/

You're gonna need help to increase your skills then, find something that is linked to Athletism or can up the stat for it. Potion, Spell, Trinket.

I've got three characters, my main with 1 Athletism, one with 3, and one with 6. Even stripping them of items and setting them as the lead character, none of them get more than 7 rounds. Is this skill test done by the lowest skill of the party, rather than the lead skill like every other test so far?

I presume the one with 6 is Roland and if he is selected as PARTY LEADER he's the one dealing with the oxygen cap. Well at least it should be like that but some are wondering how does the skill roll check attribution works...
