I loved windows 7 and Vista as well, but it's time to move on. It's scary but you'll be ok. Unless your pc is 10+ years old then yeah move on from your potato, it wants to retire.

That's not what the question was about.

Indeed, but Windows 7 was released 15 years ago, and Microsoft has stopped supporting it 4 years ago. It's time to move on.

Win7 is sending some telemetry to Microsoft but can be disabled with tricks.
Win10 is sending much telemetry to Microsoft and can only be disabled with pihole/firewall
Win11 soon will send everything you do in realtime screenshots ("AI") and cant be disabled at all.

So win7 is the best non-linux OS out there.

If you're like me and wanted to avoid bloatware in Windows 10, get the LTSC version. It doesn't have the windows store, Cortana, xbox, one drive, edge, or any of the other worthless bloatware programs in 10. It is unfortunately usually only available to businesses but there are some helpful reddit pages on how to jump through the hoops. Genuinely best OS I've ever had, and the only updates it gets from Microsoft are security ones.
