OVR Toolkit

OVR Toolkit

Should I get this?
I'm a little hesitant to buy an application like this before trying it out first. Ideally, all I really want is a way to see a live chat while streaming in VR. That's it. And from what I've seen, there are some concerns over privacy, and performance. Is it possible to only allow certain windows to show up on stream capture? Or to crop windows?

Then there's the performance concerns. I understand that this app is made with unity correct? That's not the most efficient engine out there, and I know just how difficult some games can run when OBS is in the background. Are there any recommended specs that can accommodate medium quality graphics, a 1920x1080 live stream at a minimum of 60 FPS, all while having several applications idle in the background? Thanks.

Then yes, get this, sure theres more expensive, but that dont make em better, I recommend OVR to every-one i come across. I got a lot of games, an a few VR OVR has never given me any hassle about running or performance.

This doesn't answer my questions though.

Yes it do's o wouldn't recomend it, if this couldn't handle all ya questions. I also answerd your performance question, by saying, "OVR has never given me any hassle about running or preformance"

So far one of my biggest issues remains unresolved. I bought it and set it up, but is there any way to remove some of the tools from the wristwatch interface? Say, the clock?

You'd actually be surprised on the performance, it's not as wild as you'd think. Though yes we are using Unity, it's not really used in a typical way. (OVR Toolkit is basically a heap of RenderTextures if anyone is curious!)

The performance is 'fine', as in it's in-line for similar applications. On a typical 'VR Ready' PC (Some high-end 3000/4000 series Nvidia GPU, a decently modern Ryzen 5/Core i7) the performance impact of it should be marginal. Not nothing, but not 'meaningful' if you get what I mean.

Feel free to ask questions in Discord for muchhhhhhh quicker responses, the Discussions are not regularly checked unfortunately! Steam randomly decides when to show the green notification icon and it's only me checking here. :)

Obviously I can't really say if OVR Toolkit is good or bad, I'd be highly biased, butttttttt... I will say it's 'on par with competing software in terms of performance and capability', and also I like purple/blue so the UI is a huge W for me.

Do remember you can just refund if it's not for you!

I'm afraid the clock is the base, you can add additional modules to be always visible if you need more data, but I'm afraid the clock + a module such as Media is the basics in this case.

If the watch is a bother I've seen some people put it out of sight. You can pick it up with Grip (A on Index) and move it to a better location whilst Edit Mode is active. I've seen some move it onto the arm to avoid it appearing during in normal gameplay.

When streaming VR I think it's pretty expected to see overlays, though remember if you capture the game directly then overlays are not visible to your stream! :)
