OVR Toolkit

Re-center your view until the windows are in the correct position?
I get this message when I start games. Some thought it had to do with some VR Tool. I am only using OVR Toolkit, and OVR Advanced Settings.

Just got my G2, and haven't played VR in a while. I added DCS to my Steam Games to make it easy to launch. When I launch DCS I get this message every time:

Re-center your view until the windows are in the correct position[/b]

It says to press R on the keyboard and then press Enter. Pressing R does nothing. Pressing Enter gets rid of this message. How can I stop it from appearing in the first place?

Hi there!

Yeah, this prompt is from OVR Toolkit, it assists in reloading the windows in the same location as when you last played that game. This prompt only shows when playing 'seated' games. (Games define themselves as either seated or standing to SteamVR)

Simply re-center your view in the game to the same place as you did when you last played, then press Enter and your windows for OVR Toolkit should reload in the same place as they did previously. For standing play games, they'll reload correctly without the need for this prompt due to how SteamVR works. :)

Video explaining it and how to use it is here:

If it was really a huge issue, you could always create a macro that presses your re-center view key and then enter afterwards maybe? Though there's no way of getting around this if you want your windows to be in the same place as when you last played.

Seated games have a dynamic 0,0,0 coordinate. I suppose for a flight sim think about it as 0,0 lat/long changed every time you started a new flight, that's essentially what SteamVR does in seated games. Re-centering the view in the same place as last time means that 0 position is the same as last time and your windows can load relative to it. :)

Thanks for the reply. I see why you do this and I'll have to read more and test it out. I can make a macro on my joystick for this. Thanks!

So there is no way to turn that feature off in the settings? Might help me understand better.

As of this update, I added an option to bypass it for someone who only had windows attached to their hands. (Device-relative positions don't rely on the world center at all, so they'd save fine either way) - But, disabling it with other windows spawned that aren't attached to a device would cause them to all be out of place on your next restart. :)

Going to pin this thread so others can check it out for some info about this!

I had to put this on hold for a while..

I see in your 11/23/2020 Change Log you say this setting is in the config.json file? I cannot find a config.json file. Can you please tell me where that is? Thanks.

- Added 'BypassSeatedCalibration' option to config.json. (This will bypass the seated play calibration prompt, however, only attached to device windows will save correctly!)

config.json is here:
%appdata%\..\LocalLow\Curtis English\OVR Toolkit\
(Paste that into your Start menu)

Please remember that any windows not attached to a controller will not save correctly though without calibrating the program first!

I don't see the issue with the prompt personally as the first thing you do when getting in a seated game is usually re-center your view so it feels right and forward is actually forward, at which point you'd just press enter or toggle Edit Mode and that prompt would be cleared!

If you could explain your usecase that'd be great. :)

Oh! I didn't know Toggle Edit Mode would clear that message. I will try that!! Thx.

Also, where are my window Profiles saved? I set them up yesterday and today I verified the files in Steam and it looked like it uninstalled and reinstalled OVR Toolkit to verify the files? Anyhow, I lost everything that I set up yesterday. And all the settings were back to default.

OVR Toolkit runs an uninstall script that deletes all settings when you uninstall the program, this is because people usually uninstall/verify files to fix issues they're having. :)

Save files in the 'SavedWindows' folder of the directory I posted above! All settings are in that directory above.
