OVR Toolkit

Window that I have docked to my left hand keeps disappearing while playing games
Lately, while I play VR, I've had a pop-out twitch chat window docked to my left wrist so that I can talk to my friends while playing. Overall, it works pretty well.

But for some reason, sometimes after a few seconds and sometimes after 10+ minutes, the window is completely gone and no longer docked to my left hand. I have to stop what I'm doing, open the ovr toolkit menu, do the "Bring back to me" command for the chat window, and then go into the window's settings and re-attach it to my wrist.

This was fine the first few times. But it keeps happening, no matter what settings I seem to toggle.

I've looked through all of the steam forums, and across the wiki, but can't find anything on this. Since I'm actively playing a game, I'd imagine I'm accidentally hitting some weird combination of hotkeys (controller grips? A buttons? Something else?) that causes the window to become undocked from my hand and get left behind.

Is there a way to disable this so that people can play input-intensive games and not accidentally trigger ovr toolkit commands that mess up their window layouts? Ideally, I'd like to be able to mash any controller inputs I need to and not trigger anything in ovr toolkit at all, relying instead on going through the full menu to make adjustments.

Sorry if this has been answered before, I've looked but wasn't able to find anyone else with this issue.

Are you maybe accidentally moving the window by holding grip near it when playing games?

Make sure you are pinning your windows and closing Edit Mode! If you have Edit Mode open you'll see the OVR Toolkit interface which also means you can freely move around windows. :)

(Window pinning is done through the Window Settings menu, one of the top slider options! A pinned window will show all the time, even with Edit Mode closed. This means you can have a chat window pinned so it's always visible and can't be interfered with whilst in game, then apps like Spotify only visible when toggling Edit Mode to quickly use them!)

That sounds like it'll fix the problem. Thanks for the quick reply. I'll give it a try when I get a chance and let you know.

EDIT: Disregard the post below; I just found the thread on modifying EditModeBind in config.json. Giving that a try.

Alright, this has helped some; But I've run into another issue.

When using the Index, there are no grip "buttons". Rather, a grip button input is sent every time you squeeze the controllers.

When actively playing an intense game, the player is frequently squeezing the controllers without thinking about it. So even if a window is pinned and edit mode is turned off, I find myself frequently re-enabling edit mode without thinking about it during regular gameplay. This, in turn, makes my pinned windows vulnerable to getting lost.

Is it possible to disable grip-button edit mode enabling all together and re-bind it to something else? I noticed that double tapping both A buttons also works. Is there a way to restrict edit mode to just that?

Let me know if that worked for you! :)

i know that is a old thread but it had the same problem i experience in it so, here we go.

i also tend to squeeze the controller sometimes and accidently opend the edit many times,
nearly never happened with the buttons,
could he have options to adjust the buttons on the hand controller?
otherwise, realy nice program

Yep, this is already an option.

Just remove the 'editmode' bind from the grips from within the SteamVR 'Old bindings UI'.
(SteamVR Dashboard > Settings > Show advanced settings (bottom left) > Show old bindings UI ('Controllers' menu) > OVR Toolkit)

Sorry it doesn't use the new UI, SteamVR don't include overlay applications on it for whatever reason. :)
