Transparency question
Hi,

I currently use OVRDrop with Restream chat so that I can see Twitch chat whilst in VR.

Using OVRDrop there is a transparency mode, however, this makes the entire window transparent (as you would expect.)

Restream itself has a transparency mode so that you can make the background transparent and only see the text. The issue with using this with OVRDrop is that whilst in VR you don’t end up with a transparent back ground, you just end up seeing whatever is behind Restream on your actual desktop.

Will I have the same issue with OVRToolkit?

I'm not sure actually! I've never tried to capture any app that has a transparent background. :)

We use a different method of capturing windows to OVRdrop, they capture the full desktop and crop the image to display just the window you selected, hence the desktop would be visible in the background.
We capture the direct output of a window, so it can be viewed even if something is on top of it on the desktop, that means one of two things will likely happen with transparency:

1. It'll be transparent, wooo!
2. It'll be a black background in replacement of the transparency. :(

It’s number two haha. Just tested it.

That's good to know for future reference! I didn't think it'd handle transparency properly, but was unsure. Sorry about that. :)
