OVR Toolkit

OVR Toolkit

Is it possible to use OVR Toolkit without controllers
I use my Vive Index VR headset exclusively for sim racing and therefore I have no need for controllers so I didn't buy any.

Is it still possible to use this tool please?

In the current iteration, it's not possible to set up the program without them, sorry!

If you owned controllers, you could set it up with them then not need to use them though.
There is a planned feature for a 'Simulator Mode' that would allow for spawning/moving/editing windows with keyboard inputs, it's just not at the top of the list yet.

Sorry about that. :)
Thanks for your prompt reply.

Just wanted to add that I will be a user once a 'non-contoller' option is available.*

*I only use VR for Simulators, and didn't purchase controllers. FYI, I think there are a lot of us who did this.

I'm aware there's a lot of people like that. :)

Though I have controllers, I sometimes play simulators such as Assetto Corsa, or Euro Truck Simulator 2 that don't need them on hand, so keyboard controls would be really helpful.
I am also in the same case.
I bought a Valve Index but without controllers.
When ca we except a configuration with mouse or keyboard (if it is planned) ?
Thanks ;)

I'd say it's a few weeks off yet!

I might see if I can push it ahead of some stuff and have it out by the end of the year. I guess that would be a good Christmas present for some users. :)

Out of curiosity, how would you thing is best to edit windows with no controllers?
W, A, S, D for lateral movement, and R and F for height was my original plans. (Q and E to rotate left and right, Z and X to rotate up and down)

I'd like to make menu interaction possible with a mixture of head gaze and a keyboard button to confirm the selection.

Any thoughts on what would work for you guys and your thoughts on that would be greatly appreciated!

Wow, that is a great news !! Thanks for reacting so quickly ;)

Concerning the edition, we can either do it with keyboard only (as you suggested), or with the mouse, which may be more user friendly.
Maybe with the following commands:
* Hold left click > Lateral movement
* Wheel mouse > resize
* Right or middle click > rotate in all direction

And either a button or a keyboard shortcut to enter/leave edit mode

That is a really valid point, I didn't think of using the mouse at all!
That sounds far more usable than what I was thinking about and far faster to use. :)

I'll note that on the Trello card and look into it once I start work on it! Thanks!

Really really looking forward to ses this. I need lots of YouTube videos, PDFs or even shard screens in discord while leaning a module in DCS. You ll also be able to type on KB, right (if not already now)?
Another thing I noticed is that YT videos lag in OVR but pointing my mouse on the window with the controller makes the video fluent. But it’s annoying to point at the video all the time. Do I miss sth?

When watching videos/needing a window to update constantly, be sure to disable 'Eco mode' in the Window Settings!

This setting drastically improves performance in games, but reduces the frame rate of windows when you're not actively using them, this is fine for most applications like Discord, general browser usage, Spotify, etc. but obviously not useful when watching videos. :)

Keep 'Eco mode' enabled as much as possible for the best possible performance in games, only disable it for windows you plan to watch videos on.

Thank you! I guess I should have Eco in general especially in DCS which sucks up every bit of power. But when using videos to learn I can easily sacrifice power as I’m just learning systems anyway. Thanks for the great software. Really happy there will be a sim mode

Hello, same here, I will have soon a Pimax without controllers, would be great to be able to use it with Mouse and/or Keyboard and/or GamePad , yes gamepad.
Right now I have a WMR Odyssey, and I don't use the VR controller, I can do EVERYTHING with the gamepad and the mouse. Which is great for SimRacing ( iRacing ). Especally with a wireless Xbox gamepad. The gamepad is great because you can use the 2 analogue stick for windows orientation. That's how the windows WMR Portal use the gamepad, If you have access to it, it would be very instructive for you, to watch how WMR Portal is supporting the gamepad.

...I use it exclusively for sim racing... I did not have controllers but I bought 2 second hand Vive controllers for just 85£ I suggest you invest in second hand controllers! I've just made a video about sim racing and OVR Toolkit for iRacing here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EQCj-EYplc

Yep! It's currently in development.

If you join our Discord and @Curtis#1149 when you do I can assign you the beta role and you can help test it upon release!

Currently I estimate it may be about a week off from a fully functional release, but it could be less, currently these features are implemented:
- Head gaze mouse control.
- Keyboard buttons for left and right click. (Might be controller bindable, W.I.P)
- New 'Simulator Mode' specific Edit Mode UI that appears in front of the HMD on open.
- Option to open and use the standing play Edit Mode UI for some more advanced settings.
- Basic window movement by keyboard keys. (Untested as some bugs are blocking this)

These features can't be used yet as an issue with UI input is blocking the beta release of them, but hopefully that shouldn't be long off! Feedback and help testing would be greatly appreciated! :)
