Hey this is time for a long awaited Muspell update, with major improvements to the changelog!

Side note, I’m leaning towards making this game a programmable sandbox where players could design and share their own worlds and mods. That’s why I added Python scripting some releases ago and would like to work on a level editor at some point in the near future. Any ideas or feedback are welcome.

Here’s the changelog :

Major change: Score and tiers
Major change: New monster and character design
Many UX fixes for gamepad and split screen
New: Items are dropped on the ground
New: Press X to remove a prop
New Item: Compass show the direction of spawn point
Minor UI improvements for monster health bar
Gameplay: hold down action button to mine
Gameplay: higher level pickaxe needed to mine rare ore
Gameplay: You can’t sleep during the day
Scripting: New commands gold, xp, create_item

Hello, Firstly Thank you for the key. There is problem because my antivirus recognize your game as a danger. Another this is that during 15 min gameplay recording my character fall underground and I need to restart the game.

Hey, here is the Muspell Alpha 12 changelog.

- Python scripting and console
- Type tp x y z in console to teleport
- Type pos in console to print your position
- Rudimentary swimming physics
- Fix unload chunks in spawn area
- Fix merchant navigation problem
- Fix flickering jump animation
- Fix some GUI problems with crosshair
- Fix water transparency
- Tweaked the world gen to lower sea level
- Temporarily removed gamepads and split screen

Muspell Alpha 11

Hey, it’s time for a new Muspell update, and as it contains lots of fixes and potential breaking changes, feedback is more than welcome for this one!

Lots of things have been rewritten and the focus was made on getting the game enjoyable, stable and more fun. There are no new items or monsters for this release, even if we have a running prototype for projectiles!

Warning, the old worlds won’t load properly or not at all with this new release. Creative mode was also removed as it is not the plan we have for Muspell.

New mob and cave spawn algorithm

Mobs generation and caves have been completely redesigned to better suit the procedural and infinite aspect of the game. Initially we added lots of campfires around the world to spawn goblins, but this is not the case anymore. There is a density factor and mob capacity limit to make the game smoother.

Reworked Gamepad UX

We initially planned to move a cursor using dpad when in the inventory screen, but it quickly appeared to be cumbersome, and it has been on the roadmap since probably day 1 or 2. Now it’s partially done and when you play Muspell with gamepad, the inventory screen now uses a pointer like if you had a mouse.

World streaming

This had to be done since a very long time too. Now the chunks will unload and reload properly as you move. This includes lots of fixes for multiplayer too.

One major change with this new system is that entities (monsters) are now saved and restored with chunks.

Combat

We tried to make the combats more dynamic by increasing the attack speed of player and removing the attack prepare phase of mobs. There is a slightly increased push force applied to mobs when they’re hit.

I'd like to take a moment to talk about the Muspell project, and also try out the Steam community features. So, what is Muspell ? Muspell is a mix of some of my favorite games of all time, I mean Diablo and Minecraft. My goal is to create an infinite open world where you can bash mobs to gain loot and xp, or simply settle a town or fortress and make it grow.
