AMS2 only runs peripheral detection during initial startup.
If your wheel disconnects whilst playing you'll need to restart the game.
Things to try whenever this happens...
1) Wait till the wheelbase self calibration is completed before launching the game.
2) Switch USB ports.
3) AMS2 has repeatedly "lost" my wheel, both the old T300RS and my CSL DD,
To fix this manually reassign all controls,
Steering and pedals MUST be a pull & recenter or press and release and done rapidly, if you pull/press & hold nothing happens, if done too slowly you'll see "multiple inputs detected", try faster.
You don't need to goto full lock 90 degrees is enough as you'll need to calibrate both pedals and rotation.
4) If the default CSL profile doesn't work try using "Custom wheel" or "generic DD" profiles and manually assign all controls.
I'm running the exact same setup and this has happened 3 or 4 times since the game launched, one of the above methods resolved it.
Complete hogwash..
This is only true for games without a native CSL DD profile and those that came out well before the CSL...
In order to work with these older games, compatibility mode reverts to CSW 2.5 (not csl) drivers from nigh on 6 years ago.
Case in point FH5 STILL doesn't have a native CSL DD profile and requires compatibility mode to even function.
AMS2 does have a native profile so there'd be no point using 6 year old drivers which weren't designed with the CSL in mind.
Ams 2 only works in compat mode for "my" csl dd. Fact.
The standard mode does not work and has not since I purchased the wheel last year. And It has not worked for anything including fh4/5/3 f1 --- ac/acc/rr/dr2/fm/ams/ams2/rf/rf2 and so on.
But thanks for the lecture.
Then you're doing something wrong...
Set it to red and use the default profile in game.
Checked on fanatec site. ACTUAL FACTS!
FH4 2018, doesn't. Comp mode only
FH5 2021, doesn't. Comp mode only
ACC 2018, doesn't. Comp mode only.
AC 2014, doesn't. Comp mode only.
F1 23 does.
F1 22 does.
F1 19-21 doesn't. Comp mode only.
FM 2023 does.
AMS2 does. CSL DD default profile.

Full support added end of 2021..
https://youtu.be/sX4VOr6DJ6k?si=E2S-QSOk6_vFx18e
Rf2 2012 doesn't. Comp mode only
Rf1 2005 doesn't. No details at all.
See a pattern emerging?
Anything pre 2021 doesn't support the csl dd other than comp mode.
Some games from around the wheels launch in August 2021 also don't, because the devs couldn't be bothered or are no longer actively working on the title.
Very few games after 21 don't support it.
You might wanna fact check before spouting complete garbage...
My assumption is that Win10 22H2 update changed something (in usb maybe?) and broke connection in AMS2 for us.
No, I don't think this is the cause, I could be wrong though, as I mentioned before AMS2 is well known for losing wheels exactly as you described.
Typically, in my personal experience and of several friends, this happens after a game update. Not all of them, just sometimes.
IIRC everytime it's happened to me was right after a major game update.
On each occasion one of the methods I listed previously has returned it to full functionality.
Only on one occasion did manually assigning fail using the CSL DD native profile, in that case I used the custom wheel profile which worked perfectly. A month later I tried the native profile and it worked again. (though this was when there were monthly updates instead of quarterly updates).
The most important part of manual axis assignment is you MUST pull and recenter the rim in about 1 second or less.
This is a legacy issue of the madness engine as it was also a frequent problem in PC2.
You don't need to goto full lock, you then need to use the in game calibration process to allow the game to use your selected degrees of rotation correctly.
If you pull and hold? Nothing registers..
If you pull and recenter too slowly? You'll get an error message "multiple inputs detected".
Try faster..
The pedals are exactly the same.
Depress and hold? Nothing registers.
Press release too slowly?" multiple inputs detected".
Stamp and release as fast as possible, then calibrate them in game.
If you're able to assign the buttons with no issues then you just need to be faster when assigning the steering and pedals.
It really is THAT simple.
If you can't manually assign the buttons switch USB ports and try again.
Just remember you'll NEED to restart the game because it doesn't detect controllers being hot swapped.
The wheel MUST be on and run it's self calibration BEFORE you launch the game or it will not work...
Madness engines behavior can be weird :)
Glad you got it sorted out dude, there's also a generic dd profile if you have it happens again and the custom option doesn't work.
Not used it myself as it was only added fairly recently.
I'd also highly recommend trying the custom FFB files out there.
If you feel the game is too floaty or vague using the default files, or you suffer inexplicable random spinouts, then you're likely to find a set of files to suit your driving style and give you near total confidence in the cars.

Which one you refer for CSL DD?
He created them with direct drive wheels in mind.
That's just my preference though.
Others I've tried include some by danielkart, Stakanov (on my T300 as that's the wheel they were tuned for), Kuku has a fair few sets plus there's loads more.
I didn't get on with the others, though many others did, and I always revert to Karstens 5.0.1.3.
Again preferences come into play though, FFB is very subjective so you may need to hunt the thread to find a set you like.
iirc this was sorted before V1.5 though.
Karsten was aided by Renato & the team when creating his files, so, they're fully supported by Reiza.
