Automobilista 2

Automobilista 2

Performance woes and low FPS
I am getting bad performance, I have all settings on medium. Post Processing AA is good performance, but looks bad.

I have a 43 inch 4k monitor. If I use 2500 x (cant remember) resolution it is good.

I also get massive fps drops, all of a sudden it will lag a second or drop to 15fps.

Very frustrating as its my favourite sim.

Would be helpful to see your computer specs, you may have a potato PC trying to run a heavily graphics engine in 4K.

The main issue I had with big FPS drops was with pit crew animations, turned them all off and big fps drops went.

Ah yes, computer specs.

Ryzen 7 3700x
32GB Ram
2060 Super GPU
Solid State Drives

Sometimes I think people forget what these resolutions mean. 4k,thats "8294400" pixels. Compare that to my resolution 1080p, "2073600" pixels, or even 1440p "3686400" pixels.

4k is a massive jump, you are gonna need more powerful hardware if that is what you want to play at.

Drop the res down to 1920 x 1080

You are probably running out of Vram and that is causing the massive fps loss

I am using HDR for my monitor also. I use all my games in 3840 x 2160 (native resolution) I did not realise this was causing issues, I just dident think about it.

I tried AMS 2 with 2560 x 1600 resolution on ultra settings and I get 60 ish but drops to 40 at Monza with the McLaren MP4/6. I will try medium AA.

Older games are good on the native resolution though. But yes I will lower it on many games, as microstuttering even is no good for racing simulations.

8gb of vram should be enough for ams2, I didn't realize the 2060S had that much Vram
If you do a time trial or test day with just your car on the grid with max resolution, do you still get the frame drop?

If this happens to you just on races with a lot of other cars then you can try limiting the max number of cars.

4k is a lot of pixels though, i still think that is the main Vram drainer

Switch AA off, the higher the res the less need for it. The more pixels the smoother the image should be.

You will struggle to get up to 100+ FPS for most AAA games with a 2060 Super at 1440p. 1080p will have you at a comfortable 100+ FPS for the most part.

A question about graphics settings.
For example, near Mugello, I only have white trees in the background. They look like paper.
It's probably due to the graphics settings.
Does anyone have a tip? THANKS

Have you downloaded PC2 Trees from the same website?

I used to have a 5700XT and was running that on a 49" 3840x1080 screen.
It's roughly equivalent to the 2060 super and at max settings I was getting around 80-120fps, that's on a 5800X rig though.
old rule of thumb when working out fps rates for trips is tripling the pixel count costs 50% fps.
Based on that doubling the pixel count costs around 25%.
Therefore I'd expect 60-90 fps on that 5800X rig @ 4K. Setting this vid to 4k you'll see the fps rates bottom left in green.

Both were OC'd (4.85GHz CPU & 1.9GHz on the GPU).
That MIGHT be part of your issue, Zen 2 to Zen 3 IPC increase in gaming is around 20% (that's fps rates across 8 games)
https://youtu.be/OoqnI9jLT9k?si=FiXydBKOJiO6-e0t
You might wanna consider looking for a Zen 3 CPU as it'd be a cheaper or more cost effective way to boost your fps than replacing the 2060 super.
You'll more than likely NOT get 22% as you'll be GPU bottlenecked @4k.
I did stumble on this vid with a 2060 super + I5 4690 and a janky 12GB RAM setup (4 + 8GB) which was hitting well over 50 fps at ultra settings and often getting 60+..

You SHOULD be getting better than that, even on your current system....
Have you tried using DDU & a fresh driver install?
Updating drivers overtime can leave registry files that can cause problems as time goes by..
I often use DDU before updating drivers, usually at least twice a year, might help but might not...

I race with just myself on the track, usually

Yes, I rarely race with other cars. I noticed its the AA. The post processing AA seems better performance wise, but isent that great as some distance is blurry/jagged edges. Its not terrible but noticeable.

I just tried Group C at Monza & Silverstone with full grid. I got 80fps, but when I overtook the screen froze a second and then I found myself crashed and hitting a wall. This is with all setting ultra at 2560 x 1600 with the post aa. I might try all on medium settings.

Too bad with AA off. Looks like a fuzzy mess. Even with 4k.
