Haven't bought yet. I don't want the dlc
When I read it's a 120 gigs I thought for the base game! But from what I read, you get it all, and if you race online and someone else has it, you get to enjoy the track. I get the business model but for the first good while I'll probably just play myself.

these days I don't only look at price but drive space. Game are simply getting too big and have to dedicate 5-10% of drive space per game. Unless this runs and loads fine on a HDD, which I doubt.

Or developers should start providing a medium textures version. It's usually ultra sized textures contributing to the bulk of the size.

It would be nice to install the base game, and if one goes into multiplayer then download them either piece meal or all of it then.

If I download and delete DLC will the game still launch single player? Maybe sim link null files?

The install size is fixed so removing the DLC wont alter anything the files are still there just access is removed.

It is so big due to sheer amount of content in the game, quite extensive and graphically superior to most.

Texture quality does not alter the size of the texture, just how it displays, lower textures does not mean lower file size.

I now have AMS2 on its own SSD which is not ideal but it is what it is in terms of size, laser scanned tracks in hi-def take space, a lot of newer AAA titles like COD, Starfield etc are of similar sizes these days, thats progress for ya.

To be honest, 5-10% of your (SSD-)Diskspace isn't too bad. The game, as already mentioned, has a ton of content even without any dlc. A modded Richard Burns Rally or Assetto Corsa don't use less space either.

Historicly, double- and triple-A games (I consider AMS2 a double A-game) would use generally 5% and more (usually more) of your total diskspace. In the 90s you often could not even install your full game on your HDD, with cutscenes, music, speech, etc. still having to load from a CDROM or diskette 😅

Hmm, the game has a ton of content even without any dlc. That's my point, I'm fine with the base game, but unless what I read was incorrect, you get it all regardless if you buy the dlc. I'm guessing with how much dlc there is, without it the game would be cut in half.

And 'the install size is fixed so removing the dlc won't alter anything' I don't get that. if they've completely integrated the dlc's in the base files yeah then there's nothing that can be removed. But I'm assuming all these dlc's weren't available day 1, so with most games they would be their own files. And if they are their own files they are potentially removable. So I would still need to download it all, but potentially I'd be able to delete all the dlc and have this game take 40-50 gigs instead of 120 gigs.

Again I get this business model and it's a good strategy to not split your multiplayer market, but the downside is downloads someone might not want. I'll give you another example on another platform. I have a quest 2, and bought walkabout miiniputt. At launch it was barely 2 gigs. And with limited storage on quest I always look at the file size. Well, now with all the dlcs walkabout is well over 6 gigs last I checked, probably bigger now. I've not bought any of their dlc but the game just keeps getting bigger and bigger because my device must have all the dlc that I never play nor never elected to purchase. I literally don't want it on my device but too bad, I'm getting all the dlc's whether I want them or not. The only alternative is to remove the game entirely. 6 gigs isn't much in pc land, but on a 64 gig quest, it's a lot.

Has anyone tried running this on a HDD? I could give up 120 gigs more easily on my hdd. I normally don't install games on a hdd anymore, but maybe I could get by with a race game.

I do.
Of course, I don't have a direct comparison with the SSD, but I don't have any problems with the game that would bother me in this respect.

Ok cool. if it runs ok on a hdd that's not too bad. A lot of modern games are unplayable on a hdd where you'll practically time out loading a map.

I completly get your point. While the filesize is probably a non issue for most people, it would at least be nice to have the option to decrease the filesize. By for example only downloading the dlc's that you own as you already mentioned.

I just find it funny, that even though one can easily find an affordable 1 or more TB SSD these days, people still struggle with diskspace like they did when the hdd capacity was still measured in mb. Funny how some things will never change in PC gaming :P

6tb ssd avail at Walmart for around $100
I'm on year 3 with this one here
I get some people's argument about drives from walmart;
so dont put important files on it?
idk just an idea

I wish I had the option of a 6tb 100 buck drive, even from walmart. I'm in canada, the cheapest 4 tb drive is 300. Well some low quality brands at 279...
