Sorry bad English!
Yes, but it would have to be one or the other (i.e. either H-pattern or sequential). The way the configuration works now, I can't see a way for it to work both ways. You would configure the Shift Up and Shift down to which ever gates you are using (i.e. 3 & 4 or whatever up and down gates you are using).
will that work? or will I end up just shifting up a gear and then go immediately back into neutral?
I have been using the paddles but lately I've just been wanting to see what I and everyone else can get their gear to do without having to spend a couple hundred dollars on a sequential shifting setup
p.s.
sorry if that explanation doesnt make sense or is confusing lol, kind of a wacky idea that is (for obvious reasons) somewhat difficult to explain
That will work just fine. Make sure to unbind the other gears so you only have 3rd and 4th bound to Shift Up/Down. With that, it will not put you into neutral when not shifting. Some of the ACT Lab shifters worked this way (you had a sequential plate to install). I believe some of the early Logitech shifters had a switch on them which basically did the same thing.
