VR settings and performance
Hoping someone can share some settings that work for them for VR. 3900x and 2080super using a rift s. Seems like no matter how far i turn down the settings, I have almost no performance headroom. Add cars and some rain in the mix and im below 80FPS. I get way more performance in ircaing or dirt rally 2.0 with higher settings.

Drop MSAA to 2x

Even when most of the settings off or to the lowest setting barely makes a difference in performance. Only makes it look like crap

I have a 1080 and I'm locked at 80 with a rift S with most things on high and MSAAx4. Sounds to me like you have put too much of your rendering budget into super sampling, which is increasingly diminishing returns with second gen headsets (iracing do not even recommend you use it anymore in the S or index), and absolutely always the last thing to adjust.. Much better to have SS at 1.0 and all the bells and whistles which your system can easily handle and apply the sharpening edit from PC2 oculus file.

Reverb aside, the resolution in most VR headsets is crap. What is the point of turning up your graphics settings as if you are playing on a monitor? Answer absolutely none. Your just kidding yourselves, in my opinion.

I just hope they add an option to remove stuff behind the track walls, who knows might get 30 to 40% boost.

i personally use smaa at max, ss in game at 1 and ss in steamvr at 200% graphic option all on high and 2.0 sharpening and icredibly goog performances and clear image...no stutter al all... im on i9 9900k but gtx1070

Iv been told that super sampling is more affective in VR headsets than msaa or anything like that. That's why most games they recommend low AA settings and higher SS

I'm definitely not getting the same performance in this as other racing sims in VR. I got dirt rally 2 to run better. Maybe they are still optimizing it.

The SETA tire model is a lot more complex in anything the DiRT series has ever produced. Also, the Madness engine has a dynamic environment (meaning shadows from buildings, clouds, and everything else are completely dynamic). This has an overhead on processing so no you won't get the same performance from a title using a completely different game engine.

Well I would expect good performance considering my system. It may be isolated to me but for some reason I need to turn things waaaay down to get 80fps locked
