Automobilista 2

Automobilista 2

All cars spin and skid out all too easily
I find all cars frustrating to drive in AMS2.. With normal driving in dry conditions they all, no matter which vehicle - even the trucks, seem to skid and spin out all too easily and all too often .. does anyone have any tips to avoid this as for now it's making it really unenjoyable to play and instead have gone back to project cars 2 which doesn't skid and spin out a fraction of the amount even with much faster cars...? Thank you

As a matter of fact my experience is the opposite.
Automobilista 2 is far way too forgiving. It’s quite obvius if you drive Automobilista 2 for a few hours and go back to rFactor 2.
I hope Automobilista 2 will be less arcade in the final version.

And I am in the middle of you two, and find it perfect!

i had this problem and it was very annoying!
what worked for me was to calibrate the peddles and then in the game menu adjust the sensitivity of the brake so when you drive you really have to push hard before the car wheels would lock up in game.
this for me when driving makes it rare for me to brake that hard/thus not locking the wheels leading to a spin out!
hope this helps because it changed the game for me.
[also try the stability/traction control settings]

If PC2 really does seem more forgiving in terms of spins/skids with the same types of cars/tracks you are driving in the latest updated early release of AMS2, then I would give up and stick with PC2. Alternatively take your foot off the loud pedal and try AMS2 again.

I don't think Reiza have the tire heat models dialed in for some of the tires at this stage. With that, I wouldn't try to equate it to other released sims at this stage.

Some of the tires at this stage are like ice blocks when cold and that's just not correct. Yes, tires are less grippy when cold and you cannot go full out, but you don't have to tippy toe around the track like you are ice driving. Reiza is tweaking and updating the tires with each EA release so they will get there with all of the tires.

Thank you.. I'll try that for sure..I have calibrated the pedals before though where is the sensitivity setting please..? Did you do this for the gas pedal as well as accelerating from rest also makes the car wiggle pulling away all too often too when pulling away and accelerating/driving even in a straight line?

Take my foot of the loud pedal? What does that mean?

Yes, it feels like I'm driving on ice when I'm driving in dry, sunny conditions on asphalt in the game..I have been driving extra cautiously and much slower, yet at speeds I can't keep up with the pack and still spins out.. Even after a lap or two to so called 'warm up' the tires.. Very annoying.. Love the graphics, sounds and other physics etc but until I resolve this it's just not enjoyable

Some of these cars are def tough to control. Most of these cars I have never driven in other sims so it's hard to judge the handling without a frame of reference. Harder to drive doesn't always mean that it's more realistic, sometimes it's just that "hard to drive". I assume a lot of these cars were in AMS1, it would be interesting to hear from someone on how they control from previous version.

I feel like I am driving a completely different game to people here. What car is like on ice blocks? I have yet to come across any car that feels like its on ice blocks.

the caterham, trucks, vw beetle- all spin

The Caterham is one of my favorite cars to race around Oulton Park. Especially the 620R. Even the Fuscas is a great little car to drive. Don't know about the trucks though as I haven't tried those. Are you using a wheel or a gamepad?

I think there are issues with the games calibration actually. Some people report really twitchy cars that to others don't seem twitchy. It took me a few goes to get the steering degrees (900 on Fanatec CSW1) to be recognised properly.

It probably comes down to driving technique as well. If you stomped on the brake and turn in hard in say the Caterham, sure, the rear may come around to try and kiss the front, but it just takes smooth driving and by smooth I don't mean slow , I mean non-erratic. You most definately can be smooth and fast.

I 100% agree that driving these cars should not be hard, but I don't think it is tbh. I think there are definately controller issues at play. Some of us struck it lucky perhaps.

I have the Thrustmaster T300 Alacantara Ferrari edition wheel and pedals.. Been trying to drive the caterham at Oulton Park.. But it still is not fun to drive.. I've tried changing the brake and accelerator pedal sensitivity up and down, recalibrated the pedals.. Whatever I do just in accelerating in a straight line.. It wiggles left and right to the point on accelerating and it often spins out still.. So frustrating to the point I can't play till there is a solution to this.. Tried changing the wheel sensitivity too but after setting it keeps changing back to the default wheel sensitivity and won't stay at the wheel sensitivity I changed it to either..

T500 here with an 33cm Momo Mod 78. No problems with the caterhams at all. They are really fun and easy to drive, especially the 620R. It's not twitchy for me and my racing buddys I drive with. We had so much fun powerdrifting through the corners. Perfectly controllable and intuitive to drive and recover.

Just set your wheel to maximum lock in the window settings panel and calibrate it properly in-game. The game then uses the right steering lock and ratio automatically for each car.
