Help required please
I am 55yrs old and live in the UK. I have been playing games since i was about 14/15. I have now given up on Consoles . My PC is now my go to machine.My 3 racing games of choice are this game, ACC & Raceroom. Before you all start I have always played with a Gamepad. I know, I know. I have spent hours on you tube looking at reviews for a beginner entry steering wheel. I am happy to pay between 2 and 3 hundred pounds, or a little above this but not much more. Before i get to old, please please can you guys offer some advice on what is the best steering wheel in this category. I know direct drive wheels are the best wheels on the market, but i do not want to spend that amount of money for my 1st wheel, but I still want a decent wheel that works well on the 3 racing games I am currently playing. Thanks.

The T300 is a great wheel. Most of the people who currently post this are fans of a different brand, and have never actually owned the product. BTW...You can get a version with the T3PA pedals. Not the greatest pedals, but a good starter set IMO.

This guy does a great teardown, and knows his stuff.

I started with a g29 and upgraded to a thrustmaster t500 rs but if i was you i would go for a thrustmaster t300rs night and day better than the logitech g29

I would agree with a T300. If you can't spend that much look at the T150.

I have a G920 and it's a good wheel. It is also a few years old now but still works really well.

I've also been looking at new wheels, was hoping to upgrade from a G27 to something newer, the main problem I've run into is that thrustmaster wheels are completely sold out everywhere in the UK, however PC world seem to be selling the G29 and G920 with pedals and shifter included for £250, could use the leftover cash for a semi-decent wheel stand? You could check second hand but its pretty hit or miss. as for the gaming chair I managed to find replacement castors with brakes which have been pretty great so far, anyway I hope you find what you're looking for!

Logitech and cheaper thrustmaster wheels are gear drive. They're not bad at all. (I've been using a logitech driving force GT for years.) If the Logitech C29 or 920 are available and cheap in your area they're pretty respectable, and come with a good set of pedals to boot. Gear driven wheels tend to be ratchety and lose some finer detail though.

Feel wise, fully belt driven wheels are nicer, and you're probably looking at the thrustmaster t300 or TX series. Go for packages like the t300rs GT which come with the t3pa pedal set or better. Some thrustmaster kits come with great wheels and terrible pedals, so check reviews.

Above that you're getting into expensive territory.

Lowest budget with decent FFB = T150/TMX

Low-Mid = G29/G920

Mid = T300/T500

High = Fanatec anything.

DO NOT BE TEMPTED BY THE CHEAP WHEELS ON AMAZON. They are really not worth the trouble given the 3 sims you play right now, they also lack FFB which really is key to having a decent experience.

Can't beat the logitech G29/920 does exactly what it says on the tin, and will last until the next ice age, plus you get 3pedals/shifter bargain .....

I have two logitech wheels out in the garage and that;s where they belong. Far too expensive for what they are. Only bonus is the "shifter included deal". Thrustmaster T300 or T500 would be a better option but you won't get a shifter as well at that price.

Had logitech for years and years....they last.....but my t300 is better. Going to get a direct drive a some point once the corona tax is finished but the t300 is a lot better on feel that the g series.

The other issue is trying to find one in stock in the UK

The T300 breaks a lot.. Yes, lots of problems with reliability. My G29 holds up better than anything by TM. My Fanatec wheel lasted 6 years, it still works but it's just a bit loose, FFB isn't as tight, probably needs a new belt and some other things, I don't use it anymore due to how worn out it is but it'd be pretty easy to fix as long as you can modify an off-the-shelf RS550 motor and find a compatible Gates belt. Leather rim could also use some restitching.

Problems with TM:

Belts snap
Mechanism for paddle shifters wear out (does not register, need to squeeze like mad)
Potentiometers get dirty very fast

As for the motor itself, I can't say because everything broke first. RMA'd the wheel back 4 or 5 times for a full new replacement (wasn't just a bad unit) and for the last wheel, I just sold it on ebay and bought into Logitech again.

I've had my T300 for almost 3 years now and have had no problems as of yet, and I have put some miles on it. Great wheel

When the T300 was originally introduced, there were production issues. The first few batches had some pretty bad Q&A so a lot of initial buyers had to get replacements (which Thrustmaster fully warrantied). Since that initial launch, they have addressed all the Q&A problems.
