AMS2 is 90% there in driving feel, 90% in AI tuning,, 200% better graphically, and about 80% there in content and polish. If you can cope with the early release hiccups, AMS2 will only get better from here. Given the rate they are developing it I suspect it won't be long before it arguably beats AMS1 on all fronts apart from modding.
AMS1 is cheap as chips though, so if money is an issue it's probably the best value in sim racing you'll find (apart from the heavily discounted project cars 2, which looks as good as AMS2 and has tons of content but doesn't drive nearly as nice.)
Personally, I have deleted AMS1 (and RF2+AC), keeping only AMS2, ACC and Raceroom.
But, sadly, the number of players is falling from the peak when v1 was released. If you look on the Steam stats page the number of players now rarely reaches 300. In fact, AMS1 consistently has more people playing it - https://steamcharts.com/cmp/1066890,431600#1m. I hope the rush to release v1 wasn't a mistake for Reiza as there still seems like there's much to do/fix. They have fewer excuses for bugs and missing features now that it's out of EA.
Look, by the time it's all said and done, "early access" is a pretty meaningless term. It's basically a way to get a game for a discount with maybe a few problems more than expected. Unless the version number is somehow racist, sexist or promotes fascism or violence, none of you should really care as much as you do.
You need a dose of reality, and stop the hysterics.
Renato Simioni:
"Before digging into some of the feedback about AMS2 release, a little flashback that seems relevant now as not everyone will recall or have been around then, but the release of AMS1 actually attracted a similar number of complaints and lukewarm reception from a segment of the sim racing community - including similar concerns about sales, player count and other figures, and how the sim may have been "dead on arrival".. Contrary to these early doom and gloom predictions, the game kept growing and evolving much as we planned, before becoming the simracing cult classic which most of those who stuck with it or revisited later seems to look back fondly now, and that reached its peak players a massive 4 years after its initial release. You should not be surprised then if history repeats itself with AMS2.
While the fact that history may be repeating itself to some degree is not surprising to us or to those who are familiar with our modus operandi, it probably also indicates we need to improve the way we communicate about what type of game we are doing and how we are going about its development, so that people have more accurate expectations going in - this is something we are already working on improving, with more relevant info concentrated in the soon-to-be launched official website, including more documentation on the contents of the game, its long term plans and instructions on how to get the best out of it."

Read the rest yourself.
Physics feel bland and too easy to correct a mistake or not punishing enough on poor driving techniques.
First of all, where were the “hysterics”? What did I say that was factually incorrect? I’m perfectly in touch with the reality of the situation, unlike some others on this forum. I was simply producing verifiable facts. Over the past few days the peak numbers playing have rarely exceeded 250 (and have often been below 200). However people may try to ignore the facts, these are not good numbers. I’m sure behind the scenes Reiza aren’t happy about that either. As for Renato’s comments, whilst he may actually believe what he says, no dev is ever going to admit publicly that they’re concerned about the success of their game. I want AMS2 to succeed, but the reality is that in spite of the gushing praise some people are giving it it’s not doing well at the moment. As they say in the investment world, “Past performance is no guarantee of future results“.
