CRASH - CTD Steam Overlay is the prime suspect
I used the Steam Overlay in game to look at the American vehicle list to estimate the money I would need to set up a long distance food network for my three hungry cities, The network would use several trains, trucks and about five Tr stations and three truck stations so Probably several million dollars! I couldn't find out because while the guide was loading the game abruptly switched off the steam overlay and every thing slowed to a crawl including the music which became very slow and would pause some times. It seemed like the FPS took a major hit! A few moments later and both the game and Steam for Linux client crashed to the desktop! I rebooted and posted this thread. I am using the TpF 2 Linux client with Vulcan. I use Kubuntu 24.04 soon to be 25.04 in April.

Hi, I don't use Steam, or any other similar marketplace-type launchers, partly for reasons like this, so the only suggestion I can make is that you try sending a crash report to the devs if it's repeatable.
I have found the game will CTD when there is a lack of memory.

It happens to me infrequently, mainly when either chrome or firefox have a memory leak and start to use all my available RAM. The pre-cursor to the crash are very similar to what you have described. I'm running on Windoze tho.

Cheers,
Chris.
Steam Overlay works fine for me.

Does this occur only in specific maps/saves or any?

Use an app that keeps track of hardware usage - MSI should work for Linux - and check your hardware usage as you use the Overlay, or anything else for that matter.
