there are "m","n" for creating an arch. ",","." for starting and end height. and the arrow at the building end point you can select the gradient.

I see what you mean, you hit water!. But it's just a question of laying track and gradually sloping track down until it goes underground (or underwater)!.
Hmmm, I get a sandbank forming in the water.
What you're suggesting is a workaround, that's what I'm trying to avoid. It should be a simple process for wombats like me. :-P
I do agree, building underground or metro trains/stations/subways should be much easier!. The two big improvements I would like to see are 1) being able to easily drop down to tunnel levels and build as you would on the surface and 2) working Containers, that would lead to large marshalling yards and trade with off map ports!.
