Disable auto snap
Hey. I am just wondering if there is a key or something to disable auto snap to the roads? Like when you hold shift you can move it freely, but you cant seem to be able to build while shift is being pressed?

If you use the C key then you can build at the same time.

Hi, there's also a mod to toggle it on/off:

I would love to see a toggle for the function of the "C" button. It should be able to be on or off by default instead of permanently on. Hope someone does a mod for that assuming it doesn't get fixed properly in an official patch.

He probably missed your post as the time stamp on his reply was just minutes after yours suggesting that you type faster.

it was nearly an hour not "just minutes", though an hour comprises 60 minutes so i suppose you were technically correct, similar to how the dinosaurs existed just minutes ago is also technically correctly.

I am not talking about auto-snap, which the mod addresses. I am talking about the function of the "C" button to temporarily override it. We already have buttons for fine control that would work fine to override the auto-snap--if you didn't have to contort yourself to press "C" at the same time. M, N and Shift combinations already worked before, still work in fact, but some twit decided you should need to press "C" to be able to use them.

I would like the auto-snap to remain on, because it is useful in many situations, but to manually override it with the existing perfectly functional keys WITHOUT HAVING TO PRESS "C."

Pay more attention to words instead of trying to police the forum.

Yeah I agree the control options there could use some work... But just to be clear, the C option to disable construction snapping has been around since 2021 as a configurable keybind (default C). But some ppl were upset that the Shift key was replaced so they reinstated it alongside C, leading to the confusion we still have today 🤦‍♂️

So C (which can be reassigned) has disabled construction snapping since 2021. Shift has stuck around for precision adjustment thanks to user outcry, but doesn't cover all the snapping situations that C does.

Neither of these were changed in the latest update. The only thing that changed was that certain buildings now have a snappoint assigned to them that makes them snap to roads/shoreline when before they didn't (which is how I was able to mod it out). But the controls over snapping are the same since 2021.

Close, but not 100% true. The functioning of the Shift key is not the same as before when the object is within snapping range. To get it to be the same as before, you must also hold down the C key. But your clear explanation raises another point. The better way to program this new snapping feature would have been that it automatically disables when you use the Shift key. It does not. The UI menu should also provide an option to turn auto-snap on and off, not just assign a key to temporarily disable it. It is poorly designed as-is.

Can you show a specific example of that? Because my testing showed otherwise. And I just tested it again and actually the latest 35915 has gone a step further and improved the function of both keys from what it was in 35732. Here it is today... bold[/d] is the intended use for the key:

35732
Shift
- Precision height and angle control (disables height and angle increment snapping)
- Height adjustment lost within proximity of nearby edge (street/etc)
- Cannot build while holding it

C (re-mappable)
- Precision height and angle control (disables height and angle increment snapping)
- Height adjustment lost within proximity of nearby edge (street/etc)
- Can build while holding it
- Disables construction snapping to nearby objects

35915
Shift
- Precision height and angle control (disables height and angle increment snapping)
- Height adjustment lost within proximity of nearby edge (street/etc)
- Cannot build while holding it

C (re-mappable)
- Precision height and angle control (disables height and angle increment snapping)
- Height adjustment lost within proximity of nearby edge (street/etc)
- Can build while holding it
- Disables construction snapping to nearby objects

The strike shows the improvement that was made from 35905 to 35915. There was an issue reported that the height adjustment was lost really far from the nearest road, the distance depended on the size of the station. In fixing that it looks like they gave complete height control so that selected height is never lost near roads as long as C is used.

So as you can see both keys function as before (35732) and there have been 2 main changes now: construction snapping to roads/shoreline has been added (which my mod cancels), and as of 35915 height control is no longer lost near roads.

The mod I made literally removes the snap settings added by the game update and makes it function like it did in 35732. So you can easily turn it on/off to see what it was like before (aside from the newest 35915 height control).

What's really happening to everyone is before (35732) we used Shift to make our angle adjustments, then released Shift, positioned the station, and clicked to build. But now (35905+) the station angle snaps to the road. Instead of holding C to disable that construction snapping (correct), ppl are trying to hold Shift (incorrect) and build is not possible while holding Shift, just like before.

So use Shift to set the angle (like before), and then use C to build without the angle snapping to roads.

Yep, it is now functioning the way it should. The Shift key works properly in conjunction with "M" and "N" regardless of whether auto-snap is on. So, best of both worlds. Thanks, devs!
